If there’s one thing that fast food brands absolutely love to do, it’s lick their finger, flick back through their book of previous menu items, and decide which one they’re going to bring back with much fanfare. Need evidence of this? We got it, in the form of Jack in the Box’s recent revival of its Hot Mess burger, or McDonald’s revival of the Chicken Big Mac (which admittedly hasn’t been gone for that long).

Now, we have one more instance of a fast food chain resurrecting an old classic, and it’s KFC’s turn: The chicken restaurant is bringing back the Snacker. Here’s what we know.

What is the KFC Snacker?

Originally dropping on KFC’s menu way back in the 2000s (god, doesn’t that feel like a long time ago? Well, that’s because it was a long time ago), the Snacker made quite a splash when it was around. This mini chicken sandwich had a fried chicken cutlet and a sprinkle of lettuce tucked between two sesame buns that were smeared with pepper mayo. It was cheap, it was easy to manage, and it was tasty.

The Snacker was eventually axed from KFC’s menu in 2013, and it’s been a long 13 years for fans of it who have prayed for its return. Well, that day has finally come. This time, though, the Snacker has a couple of changes: There will now be a couple of new ways to order your Snacker, which comes in a brioche bun instead of a sesame one. Instead of lettuce, there’s a pickle and, it seems, regular mayo – but you can also opt for spicy mayo and/or coleslaw. These little changes bring the Snacker more in line with sandwiches like the ones made by Chick-Fil-A and Popeyes, which are dominating the fast food space nowadays.

The Snacker will cost $3, or you can get one as part of KFC’s new Value Feast menu, with boxes priced at $7, $9, and $11. All of these contain at least one Snacker, and depending on the one you opt for, you’ll also get chicken nuggets or tenders, fries, and a drink.

How are people responding to the Snacker’s return?

The return of the Snacker has made waves online, with people quickly flocking to the likes of Reddit to discuss its comeback. As you can probably guess, a lot of these messages contain fond memories of the Snackers of yore. “I remember buying 10 for $10 once and the guys in the back were like, ‘damn, call that order in next time.’ Used to be so good,” said one commenter, whose hunger we kinda respect.

There’s no denying that the Snacker now feels a little different, though, and this’ll probably put a couple of people off. KFC’s also just brought back its Twister, and the changes it’s made to it haven’t been received super well. However, if you’re in the market for a couple of little bites and you’re not too hung up on the past, the Snacker might be worth your time.
