Mozzarella Planks Are Back at Dave’s Hot Chicken

Good mozzarella sticks are hard to find (we should know – we’ve tried them all), and so when a fast food chain brings a viable competitor to the table, you better believe that we’re all ears. So it was back in the ancient days of March 2026, when Dave’s Hot Chicken introduced mozzarella sticks to its menu. As you can probably imagine, we, and the rest of the world, were sent into rapture. And then, they promptly sold out, due to said rapture.

Yes, it was hard. Yes, it was painful. But now, they’re back. If you can find them in time, that is. Here’s what you need to know.

The Hot Mozz From Dave’s Hot Chicken: Hotter, Plankier, Better

Dave’s Hot Chicken calls its mozzarella sticks “Dave’s Hot Mozz,” and really, they aren’t sticks at all; they’re planks. Each piece is a big ol’ slab of thick-cut mozzarella, coated in a spicy breaded coating. They’re destined for social media success, largely due to the wild amount of cheese pull you get from each one – and indeed, they achieved social media success the first time around, going viral in every corner of the internet.

This sort of turned out to be a problem for people who were slow off the mark, as shortly after their introduction, Dave’s Hot Mozz sold out everywhere. It took about a week for that to happen. Now, though, we’ve received word that they’re back in its stores nationwide. Don’t you just love good news?

Dave’s Hot Mozz sticks are available in a couple of different formats. You can grab a one-piece, a three-piece, or a five-piece order of the mozzarella planks, or you can get them as a meal, which includes pickles, fries, and a dip. You can also get them as a slider, which tucks one of its planks into a toasted potato bun, drizzles it with Dave’s sauce, and serves it with pickles and kale slaw. Yuuuuum.

Are They Worth It?

Now, don’t get us wrong, Dave’s Hot Mozz sticks are a little bit pricey – a single piece comes in at $2.99 – but they’re pretty damn good. When we taste-tested the mozzarella sticks last month, we gave them a 9/10. The amount of cheese you get is generous, the breading holds its shape and flavor without being too thick or doughy, and you can pick your own spice level for them. What’s not to like?

Well, there are maybe a few things not to like. Other people who tried Dave’s Hot Mozz sticks weren’t as impressed as we were, pointing to the middling spice levels of the medium option, and hinting at the fact that they were maybe a bit overpriced. We get that. Mozzarella sticks shouldn’t be that expensive, and these nudge up at the higher end, particularly for a fast food chain. But hey, we think you can do a lot worse.
