If you thought that Taco Bell would be taking a break after its utterly head-spinning start to 2026, you’d be mistaken. The fast food chain has continued to move at a breakneck speed in the weeks and months following Live Más LIVE, when it unveiled a host of new menu items coming your way this year. We recently delivered word of three new dishes (one with one of our favorite hot sauce brands), and now, we supply news that it’s testing a couple more in Detroit and Austin.

But what is it testing? How long can you get them for? And does anyone ever sleep at Taco Bell? We’ve got the answers to all of those questions right here. In fact, we’ll tell you the answer to that last one: No, they don’t. Okay, now here’s the rest.

What’s Taco Bell Testing?

According to Parade, it’s trying out one item in each city. In select restaurants in Detroit, Taco Bell fans are currently being treated to its Shredded Beef Dipping Quesadilla, which will set you back $5.49 or thereabouts. This item is inspired by traditional birria tacos and consists of a grilled tortilla filled with shredded beef, cheese, jalapeño sauce, onions, and cilantro, which is served with a beef broth topped with cilantro and onions. If we’re being totally honest, this sounds really good. Detroit, if you like it, make some noise, because otherwise it’ll disappear forever.

What about Austin?

We’re getting to that! Over in Texas, folks are getting its Cantina Chicken Verde Nachos, which are approximately $7.99. These nachos are made up of tortilla chips, black beans, two scoops of Cantina Chicken, a three-cheese blend, reduced-fat sour cream, a zesty green sauce, onion, and cilantro. Then, you get an Avocado Verde Salsa packet on the side to finish things off. This also sounds pretty decent, and we like how Taco Bell is leaning into slightly fresher vibes here.

How Long Will They Be Available?

To be honest, we don’t think these menu items will stick around for long. These are test items, and they’re available for a limited time only. As such, you’ll likely only have a few weeks to try them – so if you’re in the area, don’t delay.

And What Else Is Taco Bell Doing?

Oh, honestly, where do we start? The restaurant has recently been testing its “Crispalupa,” which is sort of a cross between a chalupa, a taco, and an empanada, and it has also announced that its Butter Chicken Taco is about to go nationwide. Aside from that, it seems to have been generally busy plotting world domination and throwing everything it can at the wall to see what sticks. We can expect to see many, many more moves from this fast food chain throughout the summer. Mark our words.
