Is it fair to say that Arby’s has always had a bit of a retro feel to it? Correct us if we’re wrong, but we definitely think so. For the most part, this restaurant chain steers clear of the kind of wild and wacky creations that other places churn out, and instead focuses on twists on the classics with its new dishes, like its French Dip Royale and Italian beef. This week, that was proved once again, when it brought out a couple of BBQ-inspired menu items that feel relatively timeless. Arby’s knows what works for its customers.

It also seems to know what collabs work for it, too – and it’s not afraid to dive back into the archive. Word on the street is that Arby’s is planning to remount its Sonic the Hedgehog partnership, which it originally ran way back in…2019. Look, it was a different time, and we won’t hear any different. Here’s what we know.
Arby’s x Sonic the Hedgehog
News of this potential collab remount came courtesy of Instagram, with Sonic-focused account @catcha_vibe1 citing “trustworthy sources.” Who these sources are, we don’t know – but given that the cartoon franchise has previous with Arby’s, we don’t think it’s the most outrageous prediction in the world. Back at the end of 2019, before the word “pandemic” was at the forefront of all of our mouths, Arby’s kids’ meals came with a set of collectible disc toys featuring Sonic characters. This promotion ran until the end of February 2020, after which the world changed forever. So, maybe it’s trying to recapture a sense of pre-COVID innocence? We don’t know.
The People Are Excited
This post came courtesy of a Sonic fan account, so it’s probably no huge shock that the folks in the comment section were in favor of this potential, rumored collab. Nonetheless, they are. “I’ll eat there ONLY for this collab (if the menu is any good),” said one person, with others reaffirming this sentiment. Sonic collaborated with Burger King last year, so maybe it’s doing the rounds with fast food chains once more – and the fans are ready.
Others in the comment section pointed out the strangeness of the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the fast food restaurant aren’t collab’ing. And you know what? They never officially have. Isn’t that weird? It feels like an open goal for them both. Meanwhile, Sonic the chain has been teaming up with Hello Kitty on its kids’ meals. We’re not gonna complain about a Hello Kitty partnership, but come on, guys: It’s right in front of ya!
