Lay’s Has Teamed Up With Will Ferrell To Promote Its World Cup Collaboration

Anyone who has even a cursory knowledge of current food collaborations will likely know that Lay’s is teaming up with the World Cup this year. Following its 2022 collab with the soccer tournament, the chip company has been going hard for the 2026 edition, releasing 40 new flavors around the globe, which, if we do say so ourselves, all sound pretty decent.

But every high-profile food collaboration needs a high-profile marketing campaign, right? Yes. Yes, it does. And so, Lay’s is providing just that with its Bandwagon concept, for which they’ve brought in none other than Will Ferrell to spread the good word of their chips far and wide. Confused? Don’t worry, we’ll break it down for ya. 

Jump On, America

The new Bandwagon campaign from Lay’s is pretty simple: The chip brand is encouraging people far and wide across the country, who might be huge soccer fans or who might just have a passing interest in the game, to get involved with the World Cup (and to eat its chips). To do this, it’s created its new “Jump On, America” ad, which stars Ferrell, as well as sporting superstars Marshawn Lynch and David Beckham. 

In the ad, Ferrell celebrates so-called “bandwagon fans,” flipping the idea of them as something negative to a positive. The comedian drives around the country in a big ol’ truck, recruiting folks to get on board with the tournament, before Beckham takes over driving duties – and Ferrell sits in the back with the rest of the fans, a bag of Lay’s in hand. In a statement in the ad campaign’s press release, Ferrell said “People love to pretend you have to pass some kind of test to enjoy the FIFA World Cup … Lay’s is basically saying: forget that. Just jump on the Bandwagon, grab some chips, and have fun. No expertise required, just enthusiasm and snacks.” And honestly? We can approve of that message.

…And You Can Get On The Bandwagon Too!

In tandem with this new ad campaign, Lay’s is bringing its Bandwagon Tour to a city near you. Presumably, you can emulate the vibe of the commercial at what Lay’s calls “on-site activations,” which will take place in New York City, Los Angeles, and Dallas. 

And – and! – Lay’s is also running a sweepstakes, through which you can win thousands of prizes…including tickets to the World Cup final.
