Like groceries, like protein, like pretty much anything in 2026, pizza is getting more expensive. Same old story, right? While pizza has been a bit more resistant to inflation than some other types of food over the last few years (and decades), the rising cost of its raw ingredients has meant that even the simplest order can be considerably pricier than before. And if you live in certain parts of the country, you’ll be paying even more than others, according to a new report.

But where is pizza most expensive? And where is it cheapest? We’ll reveal all.
And The Award For Priciest Pizza Goes To…
Hawaii. A new study from NetCredit examined the price of a medium cheese pizza from the 10 biggest pizza chains in the US at locations in the three most populous cities in each state, with the data taken from Grubhub and DoorDash. Researchers found that overall, Hawaii had the most expensive pizzas, with a medium cheese pizza clocking in at $19.70.
Hawaii was followed by California, where a medium cheese pizza will set you back $18.85 on average, and Alaska, where it costs $18.60. On the flip side of things, if you live in Indiana, you’re in luck: The state was dubbed the most budget-friendly place to order pizza, with a medium cheese coming in at approximately $13.95.
Sorry, San Diego
As the NetCredit study collated prices city by city, it also gave some insight into which metropolitan areas had the most expensive pizza. Turns out that San Diego is the most expensive city overall: The average price of a medium cheese pizza is $20.76 there. In fact, of the top five most expensive cities, four of them were in California: San Jose ($20.02), Los Angeles ($19.84), and Fresno ($19.38) were second, third, and fifth, respectively, with Honolulu ($19.70) in fourth place.
Conversely, Texas had two of the three most affordable cities for pizza, out of the 70 major cities that the NetCredit study listed. Houston had the lowest cost of all major cities, with a medium cheese pizza coming in at $14.42 on average. Charlotte was the next-most affordable ($14.50), while Austin was third ($14.64).
Oh, and in case you were wondering: Little Caesars was named the most affordable pizza chain, with the average medium cheese pizza costing $10.27. Chuck E. Cheese, on the other hand, averaged out as the most expensive…at $20.33.
