For most soccer fans, the World Cup is all about tactics, trophies, and unforgettable goals. But for the Argentina national team, what they eat is just as important as how they play. And that’s why the reigning World Cup champions are not relying on U.S. food.

Instead, they’re sticking with a meal plan that has become something of a tradition―one that says a lot about Argentina’s love for beef.
Argentina Loves Its Beef As Much As It Loves Soccer
Reports out of Argentina say the reigning world champions shipped more than 500 kilos (roughly 1,100 pounds) of premium Argentine beef to the United States for the 2026 World Cup, ensuring players would have access to familiar cuts throughout the tournament. The meat was reportedly delivered to the team’s base camp in Kansas City, where coach Lionel Scaloni and company are defending the title they won in Qatar four years ago.
At first glance, the move sounds like a not-so-subtle dig at American food culture. After all, headlines about teams bringing their own food to the United States have been making the rounds lately, especially after Norway reportedly transported a massive supply of food from home for the tournament.
It Isn’t About Distrust―It’s About Routine
Norway’s World Cup food shipment sparked a wave of online reactions claiming the Scandinavian nation didn’t trust American ingredients. However, Norway’s head chef later clarified that the team simply wanted consistency, comfort, and familiar meals during one of the most demanding competitions in sports.
Argentina appears to be operating under the same philosophy. According to Argentine media reports, the 500-kilo beef shipment was carefully planned by the team’s coaching and medical staff to help players maintain their usual eating habits throughout the tournament.
Sticking To A Winning Tradition
Elite athletes are creatures of habit. They train on schedules, follow strict recovery plans and often stick to highly controlled diets. Changing what they eat in the middle of a World Cup can be about as appealing as changing formations five minutes before kickoff. For Argentina, that means making sure the squad has access to the food they know best. And what do Argentines know best? Beef.
This is not the first time Argentina is bringing its own beef to the World Cup. The South American team shipped even more beef to the 2022 World Cup. And since the team went all the way to win that tournament, it’s easy to understand why they would want to stick with a winning tradition.
