Why’s Everyone Talking About Chili’s New Viral Dessert?

Viral desserts…man, there’s a lot of them around. There have been since the dawn of social media, of course, but this year, there’s been a bumper crop of them. We’ve had dot cakes, we’ve had the French fry ice cream trend that continues to march forward at pace, we have 3D fruit desserts, and now, we have one from Chili’s. Yep: The restaurant has been the site of a new wave of viral innovation and discussion, thanks to a combination of two of its desserts.

And this one’s got a lot of people talking (although if you’re not being fed Chili’s-related content by your algorithm, this might have completely passed you by). We’re gonna talk about it too. 

The Viral Molten Skillet Cookie: Hats Off, Chili’s

Chili’s new viral dessert is not a new menu item in and of itself: Rather, it’s a mash-up of its Molten Chocolate Cake and Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie, which customers have, up until recently, been assembling at the table. They take the cake and pop it on top of the cookie, with the extra scoop of ice cream they get with the cake in tow. The result is a seriously hefty dessert that combines the best of both worlds (those worlds being cookies and cake, of course).

Some people have instead been asking their server at Chili’s to pair the two desserts together, which generally gives the same result, but with only one scoop of ice cream. When one video of this got well over 350,000 likes on TikTok, there was, of course, much hullabaloo, and many people heading to their Chili’s to try the same thing. 

And What Has Chili’s Done In Response?

It’s gone ahead and added it to its secret menu, is what! Chili’s posted a TikTok of its own a few weeks ago, confirming that you could now order the viral molten skillet cookie as a single dessert, instead of needing to put the two together yourself. This doesn’t just keep your hands clean: It also reduces the overall price. Tick, tick!

As for how it all tastes…well, it’s good. It’s really good. That’s if customer responses are anything to go by. This dessert gives you the best of both worlds, and it’s essentially an amped-up brookie that hits all the flavor notes you’d expect, and then some. That being said, this thing is a big ol’ portion. Unless you’re seriously hungry, probably best to share it with a friend.
