Is Blue Moon’s Spicy Challenge Worth It?

What would life be like if Blue Moon’s iconic orange garnish fought back? That’s what the brand is trying to find out with their latest challenge. To put fans’ taste buds and sanity to the test, the brand is introducing the Blue Moon Spicy Orange Challenge. What does it entail? Is it worth the trouble? We’ll get into that and so much more.

For The Spice Fanatics Out There

According to Blue Moon and a survey they hosted, 90% of Blue Moon drinkers say they like or love spicy foods. So we’re already off to a good start. To combine two interests, Blue Moon is hosting a challenge that will transform the brand’s iconic garnish into a playful test of heat tolerance.

The challenge itself is a simple concept: take a bite of the spicy orange, then see how little Blue Moon you need to drink while the spice lingers. The less you drink, the better you do. It is a little counterproductive considering Blue Moon wants to highlight how their creamy bodied beer pairs well with the heat and flavor.

The Spicy Orange Challenge Kit

On July 20th and 27th, Blue Moon will be dropping 100 Spicy Orange Challenge kits. Each challenge kit includes a dried Valencia orange slice coated with Frank’s RedHot Original Hot Sauce and ghost peppers, a custom Blue Moon glass featuring measurement markers to track your performance by seeing how little Blue Moon you can drink, a gift card that can be used towards a 6-pack of Blue Moon (for the challenge), and a bottle of Frank’s RedHot to remember the challenge for many weeks to come.

The kits will be available on the 20th and 227th at 12:00PM ET exclusively on Blue Moon’s website. Participants (obviously) have to be 21 or over to compete. One challenge kit will be available per person and priced at $19.95, a nod to Blue Moon’s founding year, plus shipping and handling.

Why, Though?

Ultimately we have to ask ourselves if it’s worth it to attempt this challenge. Unlike something like the Blazin’ Challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings, there’s no actual prize for completing this challenge. All you get is the satisfaction to brag on.

I will admit though that the challenge kit itself is a pretty sweet deal. The gift card alone gets you to $15 of the total $19.95 price point. Then comes the custom Blue Moon glass and Frank’s RedHot on top of it. Just try to remind yourself of that when you’re sweating your face off in your house while you attempt the challenge all by yourself.
