The Six Best Ways To Celebrate National Tequila Day

Some National Days are less necessary than others. Seriously, has January 9th aka “National Static Electricity Day” done anything to prevent those unfortunate balloon/hair pranks? And then there’s “National Hug Your Cat Day” on June 4th which, depending on your cat, could go horribly, horribly wrong.

But there’s at least one “National Fill-in-the-Blank Day” we can get behind―and that’s because it’s this Friday and because that “blank” is going to be filled in (generously, and responsibly) with tequila. That’s right, on July 24th, both the US and Mexico celebrate National Tequila Day, or el Día Nacional Del Tequila. And yes, we’re guessing Mexico―birthplace of tequila and home to the blue weber agave cactus-studded state of Jalisco where it’s produced―will do a classier and more educational job celebrating.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the literal spirit of the holiday with, well, literal good spirits. Instead of just the usual, or big names, we decided to poke around for some more unique bottles, and a few cans, to give your 2026 agave gratitude a little more gravitas. (Yeah, we said it.)

Mamitas Tequila Seltzers: We already know there are plenty of great canned tequila cocktails out there, so we figured we’d add some tequila seltzers to the list. Well, eight, to be exact. The Mamitas line of Tequila Seltzers range from Classic Margarita, Tequila Sunrise, and Paloma to Espresso Martini, Spicy Marg, and a few tropical fruit flavored seltzers. Nowhere near the sweetness (or ABV) level of your classic canned margarita―all but the Espresso Martini top out at 5% ABV (the coffee cocktail goes all the way up to 8%).
COA Silver Tequila: Maybe a lesser known brand (than 1800, Patrón, Casamigos, etc.), but a brand to celebrate just the same―and not just because it’s a renowned value, good enough to sip over some rocks with lime, and affordable enough to stock your bar for tequila cocktails. Made with 100% blue agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco (and named for the tool used during the harvest), COA Silver has those green, peppery, faintly floral notes you’ll want poolside as you sip a tequila and tonic or a jalapeno-spiked margarita.
Espolòn Flor de Oro: Meaning Espolòn “Gold Flower,” this is the award-winning tequila brand’s first seasonal release, meant to celebrate el Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. The gorgeous golden hue comes in part from the Reposado (i.e. “rested,” or midway aged) base tequila, but what makes this bottle so special and different is the addition of marigold extract, adding just a hint of buttery florals to the smooth, but still prickling warmth of a reposado.
Don Julio Rosado: You’ve most certainly heard of Don Julio tequila, but you may not have heard of, or sipped, their Rosado tequila. What better day than National Tequila Day to splurge on something (almost) completely different? One look and you’ll see what it’s called “rosado”―the reposado tequila is finished in Ruby Port Wine casks, tinting it the gentlest sunset orange and (most importantly) mingling chewy, deep red fruit notes into the smoother, slightly silkier reposado backdrop. More of a splurge, and definitely a showstopper tequila.
Patrón Sherry Cask-Aged Añejo Tequila: You probably already know the name Patrón, but if you’re up for some tequila sipping and the concept of an añejo intrigues you, go a step further with Patrón’s Sherry Cask-Aged Añejo. By finishing their añejo tequila in previously used Oloroso sherry barrels (or casks), Patrón isn’t just leaching out the usual (exquisite) smooth nuttiness, sweetness, and/or oak lactones (it’s a thing)―they’re also getting flavors like dried fruit, pecan, and vanilla.
Ritual’s Zero Proof Agave Spirits Alternative: The name is a mouthful, yes, but fortunately so is the stuff inside. (In a good way.) Ritual specializes in the non-alc space, so it’s no surprise their non-alcoholic tequila tends to rank high in taste tests―retaining all those longed-for agave notes of peppery floral, almost savory green carried on a (definitely zero proof) kind of faux-tequila “heat.” Stock this for your non-imbibing guests this Friday and be King or Queen of National Tequila Day. If that is a thing. (Which it should be.)
