Outback Steakhouse Is Getting Fancy For Filet Mignon Day

“Oh, my god. Not again.” I know, I hear you. We have another National Food Day on our hands. The celebrations will, quite simply, NEVER cease. This morning, I’ve written both about National S’Mores Day and why that day (and others like it) exists in the first place. Yesterday, I was writing about National Frozen Custard Day and what Freddy’s is doing for it. And now, I bring you yet more news about 24 hours in which you can praise a meaty menu item. It’s Filet Mignon Day on August 13, and Outback Steakhouse wants you to know it.

But as far as we can see, it’s not offering deals (well, not yet, anyway). Instead, it’s offering…data. 

Let’s Talk About Steak

In the run-up to National Filet Mignon Day, Outback Steakhouse released the results of its Modern Steakhouse Survey, which examined the eating habits and preferences of steakhouse customers and how those have changed over time. The survey made for some interesting reading on the shifting perception of steakhouses from slightly higher-end places to those that invite a more casual feel. 

The Modern Steakhouse Survey revealed that nearly 50% of respondents consider steakhouses to be casual eateries, with 32% of people saying that they’ve become more accessible and less formal over time. More than half of the people who took part in the survey (51%, to be precise) also said that steak dinners should be affordable, while the same amount would consider a steakhouse to eat out at, even if there was no special occasion attached. 

While steakhouse customers are increasingly valuing a more casual vibe, though, that doesn’t mean they’re compromising on flavor. 60% of the 1,000+ people surveyed said they prioritize tenderness, flavor, and quality when ordering – and just under one in five said that they aim for value for money instead. This is all music to Outback Steakhouse’s ears, we’d imagine, seeing that it’ll be serving up its Victoria’s Filet Mignon this August 13. 

But No Deals?

So far, no deals – but we’re still almost a week away from National Filet Mignon Day, so there’s still time for them to appear! If you want to get a little fancier, though, Morton’s The Steakhouse has already dropped its Filet Mignon Day offer: Head to one of its restaurants between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. next Thursday, and you can grab filet sandwiches (well, sliders) for just $2 each.
