Grippo’s Just Got Turned Into Ice Cream And Fans Are Already Pumped

United Dairy Farmers has teamed up with Grippo’s for a brand-new flavor called Fun Food Crunch, combining buttered popcorn ice cream with Grippo’s Bar-B-Q spice-infused caramel and chocolatey, crunchy pretzel pieces.

It’s already in stores and I have several questions.

So, What’s In Grippo’s Ice Cream?

Fun Food Crunch starts with buttered popcorn ice cream, then gets swirled with Grippo’s Bar-B-Q spice-infused caramel and loaded with chocolatey, crunchy pretzel pieces.

So you’ve got sweet, salty, buttery, smoky, and crunchy all happening in the same scoop. It sounds a little unhinged. It also sounds like exactly the kind of thing that works better than it has any right to.

The Grippo’s Bar-B-Q flavor is the whole point here. If you’re not familiar with the brand, its Bar-B-Q chips have a seriously loyal following, and now that signature seasoning has made its way into caramel.

Putting barbecue seasoning into an ice cream swirl is either genius or chaos. For a novelty ice cream, I’m willing to accept either.

Two Snack Brands Decided To See What Happens

There’s some history behind this one, too.

Grippo’s has been around for more than a century and has long called itself the original “Fun Food Company,” which is where the new ice cream gets its name. United Dairy Farmers, meanwhile, has been around since 1940, so this isn’t two completely random brands throwing together a weird flavor and hoping people buy it.

It’s a collaboration between two established brands that seem to have decided regular ice cream is no longer interesting enough. And I’m not complaining.

It’s A Little Chaotic

The flavor combination is doing a lot of work here.

It’s basically sweet-and-salty taken to its logical extreme. You’ve got ice cream, barbecue-spiced caramel, and pretzel pieces all fighting for attention in the same pint, and somehow it makes sense.

I’m not saying this sounds like something you’d invent at 11PM after eating everything in your kitchen, but I’m also not not saying that.

Here’s Where You Can Actually Get It

Now for the catch: Fun Food Crunch isn’t rolling out nationwide.

The limited-time flavor is available in a co-branded 16-ounce pint at Cincinnati-area Kroger stores and all 170-plus UDF locations across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, while supplies last.

So if you’re in the area, this is your chance to find out whether Grippo’s Bar-B-Q belongs in your ice cream.

If you’re somewhere else, your options are considerably less convenient. You could always find a friend in Ohio willing to ship you a pint of rapidly melting barbecue ice cream, but I’m not sure that’s the kind of friendship test anyone should have to take.

If the idea of Bar-B-Q-spiced caramel in your ice cream sounds mildly horrifying, that’s fair. But something tells me the people this was made for already have their car keys.
