It’s officially September now, so that means it’s finally okay to decorate for Halloween, right? Well maybe not quite yet, but we here at Sporked have been channeling our spooky excitement towards something we can still work on well in advance without getting funny looks from our neighbors: our festive hosting menus. And for Halloween hosting, there’s nothing more critical to the aesthetic of your get-togethers than a fun and interesting drink to sip on. Naturally, we knew we’d have to comprise a list of the drinks we’re most looking forward to breaking out for the holiday. And these are the three drinks we’re most excited about.

Honey Brew
Personally, my favorite kinds of holiday cocktails are ones that are something very familiar with subtle twist that amplify their flavors and colors. The famous Honey Deuce, the official cocktail of the U.S. Open in collaboration with Grey Goose, is a great one to play off of. First of all, it’s already made with a colorful raspberry liquor. The combination of lemonade, vodka, and raspberry liquor make a delightfully pink-ish sip that’s supposed to be topped with three melon balls.
I encourage you to think now how it would look delightfully spooky if you made the drink in layers using a green melon liquor like Midori in place of the melon balls themselves. You can make the regular Honey Deuce (maybe with an extra drop of red dye if you’re feeling up to it) and then pour a shot of melon liquor over the back of a spoon onto the drink to create a floating layer of bright green spirits over the pink-ish red drink. Not only are you just playing with the flavors that already make this cocktail delicious but naturally emulates a spooky witches brew with one simple technique. Throw in a cocktail stirrer with a witches hat or broom stick on it to make it extra on the nose and these will be sure to go down a treat.
Bloody Sangria
If you love sangria or just prefer drinking a glass of wine in general, then I’d say some spooky twists on a pretty basic sangria recipe are going to be your best bet for any Halloween hosting. Not only are big batched brews like sangria eternally convenient for hosting, but this larger setting allows you to really play around with the visual effects. Most sangria already has pieces of apple in it, but for this setting you can really get creative. Break out the Halloween cookie cutters and turn the apple pieces into fun Halloween shapes like bats and ghosts. Plus, the high contrast between the bright apple and the deep red sangria will make them really pop! Just make sure to make the pieces small enough so that everyone get get some of those shapes into their glasses, too.
The best part about this drink, though, is the fact that it’s so customizable. If you already have a sangria recipe you love then you can use that in a heartbeat, or you can give it a bit of a twist by throwing in some cozier seasonal flavors like pomegranate and blood oranges. Regardless, this drink is a simple enough rendition to an already classic cocktail that you can whip up in just a few minutes, set aside to marinate, and you’re ready to serve up a spooky drink on demand.
A Glass Of Eyeballs
Like I said, folks, we’re not here to make anyone’s lives unimaginably complicated or fussy. And there are few cocktails that are as simple and streamlined as a martini. Plus, you can make this martini however you’d like! If you love a gin martini, a lychee martini, a lemondrop martini, or even a cosmo just know that all are welcome here. With that in mind, all you have to do to make this into a ghoulish sip is to add in a little dash of edible glitter to the drink itself and place a gummy eyeball at the bottom of your martini glass. If you’re serving up your martini, you could even stab your olive skewer through the eyeball to incorporate it into your drink in a fun way without necessarily having to eat the candy. Through the clear glass and drink, you’ll have a spooky candy staring you down. I can’t think of anything more frightening than that.
