I’m sure it’s entirely unsurprising that food writers eat a lot. But, in the event that you’ve ever considered how much a food writer must surely taste, double it and you’ll start to get a better grasp of the true variety. It’s a good time when you get to taste every variety of fast food French fry in a single day and chock it up to professional research, but this lifestyle is what ultimately leads us to this series each week. We taste a lot, but what are the most memorable items that actually stick with us when each week comes to a close? Well, these are the three items that stuck out most to us this time around.

Whole Foods Tortellini, Kale, & Parmesan Soup

Whole Foods’ soup section has, to me, always been superior. Any time I hear that a loved one is feeling under the weather, I skip the kitchen entirely and get a one-way ticket to the Whole Foods hot bar. Why mess with perfection? From the bisques to classic chicken noodle, their soups are too good to pass up. This tortellini soup, in particular, is a standout to us since it’s so rich from the delightful savory flavor of the parmesan that you almost forget there’s kale in it at all. And, as we’re teasing the turn toward autumn that lies shortly head, there’s few better ways to do that than by fully embracing cozy nights at home with a big bowl of steaming hot soup. Plus, on Tuesdays Prime Members can get these soups in the take-home containers for buy-one-get-one 50% off, so there’s a deal in it for this one too.

Kirkland Signature Olive & Rosemary Sourdough Bread

The Costco bakery section is simply better than we ever expect it to be. Everything that comes out of it, and especially the breads, are off the charts exceptional for a grocery store. For the quality on offer, the price is seriously impressive, too. The parmesan and rosemary sourdough they had for sale over the summer quickly became one of our favorite loaves, but its absence was only grieved momentarily until we turned our heads and saw the new Olive & Rosemary Sourdough Bread that they’ve replaced it with on shelves. It sounded irresistible, and, rest assured, it is. The tender, glutinous interior goes perfectly with the crunchy crust. And the mix of the earthy, briny green and black olives is simply perfection with the parmesan flavor throughout.

Bob’s Red Mill European-Style Muesli

Oats have had more than their fair share of time in the on-trend breakfast cycle. But, in the event that you’re still loving your simple morning routine of oatmeal for breakfast, then I come to you proposing the slight change of replacing your morning oats with muesli instead. The reason I say slight is because muesli is still around 50% oats. And you can prepare it like you would your traditional oatmeal, or you could have it as a cold cereal instead. This muesli has nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and some shaved coconut in it, all of which make it a fantastic alternative to oats. Not only is it more nutritiously balanced, but it’s just easier. Most people eating oatmeal top it with some combination of fruit, nuts, or seeds. This simply takes an extra step out of that process and infuses the whole bowl with their flavor. Muesli has long been my preferred oat breakfast, but this Bob’s Red Mill variety has taken the cake with the most high-quality and delicious muesli thus far.
