Trader Joe’s Is Getting Spooky With Its New Tote Bags

Iiiiiiiiit’s Trader Joe’s tote time! We are, indeed, so back. The tote selection at Trader Joe’s may not be the talk of YOUR town, but it’s the talk of some people’s towns…including ours. This year, we’ve brought you news of its spring and summer mini totes, as well as its limited-time totes and a couple of trips down memory lane along the way. Now, as we careen headfirst towards Halloween, we have yet more tote-related information to bring you – in the form of its new spooky tote drop.

Trader Joe’s Trick-Or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes

A few days ago, we learned via food content creator @markie_devo that Trader Joe’s was gearing up to release its new Halloween mini canvas totes, which are returning this year following a successful run in 2025. And then, lo and behold, the totes appeared on its website – they’re real! They’re coming! All is right with the world if the equilibrium of your existence depends on small bags with a surprising number of uses. 

Anyway, to the totes themselves: This year, Trader Joe’s is releasing them in four different colors/patterns. There’s a standard black with an orange Trader Joe’s logo, a black base with green straps and a purple underside, a green base with purple straps and a black underside, and a solid purple option with a green logo. A very Halloween-appropriate color scheme going on with these. The bags are sold at $2.99 each, and on its website, Trader Joe’s also says there’s a limit of one per customer (these totes tend to produce a fairly wild rush to purchase them). There’s also no current release date listed, so these could arrive at pretty much any time – although last year, they dropped on October 8, so we’d expect them to be released close to that. 

And How Do The People Feel?

Well, there’s a mixture of excitement and, dare we say, potential mini tote fatigue. “1000% not getting. I am not fighting for the right to buy a cheap tote bag,” said one person on @markie_devo’s post. And honestly, totally understandable. There’s a limit to how much the average person can sustain excitement for a small collectible bag. Other people have flagged that these colors are fairly similar to those released last year and were perhaps hoping for something a little different. Will this drop be a dud? Probably not — but maybe it’s time to mix things up a bit.
