We haven’t been able to move for food trends this year, but none of them have been as aesthetically pleasing as dot cakes. These nonpareil-studded, Instagram-ready cakes first started really taking off a couple of months back, and for a while they were all over our feeds. And yes, while they were primarily designed to stop people scrolling in all their colorful glory, they had the added bonus of actually tasting good: When Publix launched its own dot cake, we were first in line, and very satisfied

So it’s probably no surprise that dot cakes have continued trundling on into fall. A few weeks ago, Compartés launched a dot cake bar, and now we have a new frosting that makes them a breeze.

Funfetti Dots Of Fun Vanilla Frosting

Yesterday, Funfetti announced that it was launching its new Dots Of Fun Vanilla Frosting. This new “frosting innovation,” as per its press release, is a combination of a tub of vanilla frosting and colorful dot sprinkles. You add the frosting, you shake on the sprinkles, you film a couple of clips for your TikTok, you go viral, you grab some brand deals, you suddenly become a baking influencer, and so on and so forth. That’s the idea, anyway, we guess.

Notably, Funfetti doesn’t mention the term “dot cakes” anywhere in its press release – but the implication is clear. “With Funfetti Dots of Fun Vanilla Frosting, we are bringing the latest trends in baking and decorating to the forefront of the category,” said Dan Anglemyer, Hometown Food Company (which makes Funfetti)’s chief operating and chief marketing officer. It would also be kinda weird if Funfetti HADN’T tried to jump on the whole dot cakes thing in some way: After all, its whole thing is combinations of frosting and nonpareil sprinkles, so this is kinda just a well-timed sideways step for the brand.

Get Those Dots On!

Funfetti’s Dots Of Fun Vanilla Frosting will be available at select retailers and online, and it’ll likely drop pretty soon (can’t miss that trend, after all). Although Funfetti hasn’t said which retailers will stock it just yet, its products are widely available at places like Walmart, so unless this release is very limited, you probably won’t have any huge trouble finding it.

There’s no reinvention of the wheel here, but this new frosting does sound fun, so…I’m into it! Anything that makes baking a little easier is a good thing in my book. And it’s definitely a lot less out-there than Funfetti’s sourdough bread mix last year, which…was…odd.
