This New Swedish Fish Flavor Will Have To Win Some People Over

Amongst all the Swedish-born candies out there, Swedish Fish reign supreme. The most well-known of all the Scandinavian sweets in the US, they’ve remained popular throughout the years for, I would argue, one simple reason: You know what you’re getting. Like most good brands, Swedish Fish does one specific thing very well, with its unique combo of elderflower flavor, glutinous chew, and fish shape allowing it to retain a corner in the market. That’s not to say it doesn’t mix things up with different flavors or collaborations now and again, but for the most part, it stays classic.

Maybe that’s why its newest flavor has some people raising eyebrows. Swedish Fish and chocolate? Some people are gonna need convincing.

Fudge Covered Swedish Fish Minis 

Yesterday, @markie_devo revealed that Swedish Fish will soon release Fudge Covered Minis, in time for the holiday season. This new flavor takes classic Swedish Fish, in all their elderflower-y glory, and covers them in a milk chocolate fudge coating. According to @markie_devo, Fudge Covered Swedish Fish Minis will drop at the end of October and will be available at Walmart, amongst other stores. 

The combination of chocolate and gummy candy has a couple of people wondering whether Swedish Fish has made the right move with this one. “Love Swedish fish, but I’m extremely skeptical on this,” said one person in @markie_devo’s comment section. “UMMM……. idk how I feel about this? It giving me muddy bears. Also you could DIY yourself dipping swedish fish into chocolate. Giving flashback of that horror Swedish Fish Oreos,” stated another. That comment is referring to the slightly ill-fated collab between the two brands back in 2016, which saw a Swedish Fish-flavored créme sandwiched between Oreo cookies, and which people largely hated. It didn’t work – so why would this one?

It’s Not All Bad

That said, a lot of people DO like the sound of Fudge Covered Swedish Fish Minis, and plenty came out to bat for them in the comment section. Others also noted that their local candy shops have been selling chocolate-covered Fish for years now, so this isn’t exactly a new thing. Besides this, I personally believe gummy candy and chocolate combos are delicious. I heartily recommend tracking down Cadbury’s Marvellous Creations at a World Market near you: Its mixture of smooth milk chocolate, jelly candy, and popping candy is a flavor sensation.
