Aldi Fans Have Spotted The Return Of This Chocolate Fave

Benton’s Italian Choco Wafers, a crispy, chocolate-covered snack that Aldi fans have compared to KitKats. After apparently disappearing from some stores for months, the wafers are showing up again. And if the reaction on Reddit is anything to go by, people have been waiting.

These wafers have been getting love from Aldi shoppers for a while. In a Reddit discussion one year ago, one fan said a package didn’t even survive a full day in their house. Another shopper said the wafers were so good they had to hide them from their family.

On September 21st, one shopper shared a photo of the Benton’s Italian Choco Wafers on the r/aldi subreddit with a title that pretty much said it all: “It’s finally back !!!!!!!” The shopper said they had been looking for the wafers for more than eight months, even checking Aldi twice a week in hopes of finding them. So, what did they do when they finally found them? They bought 10 packs. And who can blame them?

If you haven’t tried these before, Benton’s Italian Choco Wafers are crispy wafer cookies covered in chocolate. Aldi currently lists a 5.08-ounce package for $4.39 on its website, though prices and availability can differ depending on the store.

They’re Like KitKats — But Even More Chocolatey

Each pack of the Benton’s Italian Choco Wafers contain six individually wrapped wafers you get layers of crispy wafer and chocolate filling. The whole thing is then covered in even more chocolate.

Basically, if your first thought was, “That sounds a little like a KitKat,” you’re not alone. KitKat comparisons come up again and again when Aldi shoppers talk about these wafers.

In the recent Reddit thread, someone asked if the snack was similar to a Moon Pie. Another commenter quickly cleared things up, saying a KitKat was a much better comparison because of the crispy wafer-and-chocolate combination.

And this isn’t the first time shoppers have made that comparison. In a Reddit discussion over a year ago, one fan called Benton’s wafers a tastier version of a KitKat. Another said they reminded them of the KitKats they remembered eating in the 1990s, but with richer chocolate. One particularly enthusiastic shopper said the Aldi treats were what KitKats “aspire to be.”

Of course, not everyone is ready to hand over KitKat’s crown. Taste is personal, and a few Reddit users weren’t as impressed by the hype. One shopper also pointed out that Benton’s version is much more chocolate-heavy than a regular KitKat.

Fans Are Stocking Up

The excitement around the latest sighting makes a lot more sense when you realize just how long some shoppers have been looking for these wafers. And they may not be back everywhere.

The original Reddit poster found the wafers in Texas, but shoppers in other states reported very different experiences. One commenter in Pennsylvania said their Aldi had continued selling them, while a Florida shopper said they still couldn’t find them. But Aldi currently has an active listing for Benton’s Italian Choco Wafers on its website. So, fans are already stocking up before they disappear again.
