I love a good breakfast sandwich. I’m pretty partial to McDonald’s sausage egg McMuffin. But I love trying other places. So, when we’re pitting two breakfast sandwiches together, they’d both be from fast food places. But this time, there’s a little twist. The contender isn’t a restaurant, it’s a store.

The sandwich in question? None other than Chick-Fil-A’s classic chicken biscuit. A simple, no-nonsense breakfast sandwich that packs a punch of flavor that’ll leave you satisfied until lunch. And who could possibly be competing with one of the giants in the chicken game? Well, of course, it would end up being Costco. That’s right―the wholesale giant has begun carrying the Mason Dixie chicken biscuits. So, of course, we had to try them both and see which comes out on top.
Costco
Now, it’s probably no surprise that Costco easily takes the win in cost. A box of eight chicken biscuits costs $15.99, which breaks down to $1.99 a sandwich. You go to Chick-Fil-A and get just the sandwich? You’re looking at almost $4.
But this Mason Dixie dupe had a bit of a learning curve. I found the microwave to do a great disservice to the sandwich. It wasn’t the worst microwave breakfast sandwich I’ve had. But it was definitely not something I’d go reaching for again. Since air fryer instructions were included, I made them that way as well.
This method was a totally different experience. Air frying made the sandwich more comparable to Chick-Fil-A’s than the microwave did. But does that really work in its favor? Not everyone has an air fryer. And if you do have an air fryer, it’s not convenient to pull it out just for a breakfast biscuit. When the quality of the sandwich depends on the appliance you have access to, well… That kind of counts against it.
Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A’s per-sandwich cost is never going to live up to Costco standards, but the price tag isn’t the only thing to look at. There’s also cost in terms of value. If you go with Costco, you’re getting only the sandwich. If you go to Chick-fil-A, you can upgrade to a whole meal. So really, value will come down to how much work you want to put into breakfast. You want everything done for you? Maybe you just stick to Chick-fil-A (and avoid the air fryer). But if you don’t mind a little extra work (including some homemade coffee), then the Costco dupe may be right for you.
We all know the Chick-Fil-A version: a warm buttery biscuit with a juicy, well-seasoned breaded chicken cutlet―two components for a delicious breakfast. Now, Chick-fil-A isn’t my favorite fast food chicken out there. In my opinion, there’s definitely better. They’re partially carried by their sides, but their chicken is good. The chicken is juicy while the biscuit itself is the right side of crumbly, but not too dry. And, of course, this is a good breakfast for when you’re on the go.
The Verdict
So just which chicken biscuit do I think won? Well, it may cost a little more, but the taste and convenience of Chick-Fil-A’s biscuit wins out for me. Plus, I can get hash brown bites and whatever drink I’m feeling that morning. If I’m making the sandwich at home and want a drink or side, I have to make those myself too. So this time, I think I’ll give the win to Chick-fil-A.
That’s not to say that the sandwich is bad and you shouldn’t get it. If you want just the sandwich and can warm it properly, go for it. It was a good sandwich. But sometimes, other factors weigh against the cost.
