Wendy’s Emo Soundtrack Actually Slaps

Yes. You read that right. Wendy’s, the restaurant known for their snarky social media presence and fresh, never frozen beef, have just released a music album. Not just any album, an emo album.

Wendy’s is leaning into the “Sir, this is a Wendy’s” meme and late night parking lot hangouts with their album titled Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot. Yeah, no. I’m with you. I’m not sure who was asking for this, but good for Wendy’s I guess?

Everything About The New Album

For this album, they recruited several big names in the music scene to help them put together this album, ensuring that this is artist-made and not AI (a refreshing stand for a brand, in my opinion). With hit songwriter and producer Matt Squire (Known for working with Panic!, 3oh!3, and All Time Low, among others) partnered up with emo singers and bands for an album with six songs. And honestly? It does, in fact, slap. They perfectly captured the emo vibes―and this is said from an emo kid since high school who has done Warped Tour and concerts for years. This album fits in with any emo kid’s playlist pretty perfectly. 

So, what are the songs? We’ve got a wide range of emo music from the longing in “I Miss the Sunroom” to the heartbreak of “She Said She Didn’t Want Fries (She Lied)”. They don’t just equate emo music to one note. They did justice to the genre honestly. Like, why did Wendy’s drop such a banger of an album? They really could have just turned this into a big joke, but they took the time and effort to make an actual good album. Honestly, I’m impressed. 

Now, “I Miss the Sunroom” is my favorite but that’s because I super miss the old Wendy’s sunroom. Somehow, this goofy stunt from them perfectly captures my exact feelings when remembering those days in the sunroom. You know, baking under the glass with a Frosty in a bright yellow cup? You know exactly what I’m talking about. 

Leaning Into The Bit

This, of course, isn’t Wendy’s first foray into music. In 2018, they released a hip-hop mixtape. So it’s nice to know that they can be diverse in their genres. Now, I know what you’re thinking―music? From a fast food chain? But it’s not that wild when you think about the fact that it’s Wendy’s. Is it really any surprise that Wendy’s made an album when they love making memes and just behaving differently than every other brand? It’s kind of their signature now. Now I’m kind of wondering what the next album will be.

I will say, listening to the lyrics too closely makes it a little funny. It’s just absurd to be listening to an emo song that starts talking about how a square patty changed your life. But even with the very blatant plugs to Wendy’s and their products, the lyrics still really work. I didn’t expect to like it so much. Now I will say, if you’re not a fan of emo music, you may not like the album. And that’s fine. I would recommend at least reading the lyrics for the songs just to see the silly jokes they make throughout. For emo fans though, give it a try. They’re a jam.
