The days of constant food challenges that have nothing to do with sweepstakes or giveaways are long over. I mean, I can’t even remember the last time there was a hot dog or pie eating contest in my area. Those beloved memories of people gorging themselves for seemingly no reason other than bragging rights and the occasional prize on the other side are behind us now. And while most of us just have to accept that, one Wendy’s location is bringing back one of the illustrious food challenges from the days of Wendy’s past.

With no grand announcement or campaign attached, the T-Rex Burger challenge has returned to just one Wendy’s location that we know of. And while this has seemed to leave us with more questions than answers overall, it dug up some Wendy’s history with a current-day incentive. To say the least, our curiosity has been peaked.

What’s That Challenge?

For the average person, I think most people would say that three patties on a burger is the max that feels reasonable to sit down and eat. But hey, if a challenge was even remotely considered reasonable they wouldn’t be able to call it a challenge now would they? Well, the T-Rex Burger takes the cake with an absolutely unreasonable amount of patties to put on a burger, let alone to expect someone to actually sit down and eat it in a short time frame. You see, the Wendy’s location in Edmond, Oklahoma put up posters advertising the T-Rex Burger as a nine-patty burger, asking its patrons to take on the challenge.

Beyond the nine patties, the burger has nine slices of cheese (one for every patty, of course), onion, tomato, pickles, lettuce, mayonnaise, and ketchup on it. The meal comes with the T-Rex Burger, a drink, fries, and an “I survived the T-Rex Burger” t-shirt all for $29.99. If you can finish the burger in-store then you will even be awarded an additional mystery prize.

This All Sounds Familiar…

If this sounds familiar to you, don’t be confused. In fact, the T-Rex Burger has actually been part of Wendy’s lore for quite some time now. What started as a joke in the early 2000s turned into an actual campaign from Wendy’s in which you could try to conquer this outrageous burger. The nine-patty beast hasn’t been available or recognized by the company in nearly 13 years now though. It has simply lived in the secret-menu Wendy’s Zeitgeist with no clear answers around its legacy.

Whether or not the T-Rex Burger and this challenge will be coming to other location is still to be determined. But if and when it does, rest assured that we’ll be here to let you know.
