We’ve already heard plenty about the poutine. And the breakfast poutine. Fine, it makes sense for Wendy’s to feature a regional (and let’s be honest, traditional hangover cure) dish on its Canadian menus. So, no matter how much we’d like to be able to hit up the drive-thru for some gravy-drenched, squeaky cheese-curded fries at the end of a very long, very good, or very bad day, we’ll accept that Wendy’s Canada has like, proprietary rights to poutine.

And that’s because, of course, Americans are patient when it comes to snacks. Okay, just kidding―we’re insane snack maniacs. But apparently we have no choice. So all we can really do now that we’ve heard Wendy’s has another French fried snack north of the border is beg. Dear Buffalo Shaker Fries, please come to the States.

French Fries Meet Frank’s RedHot Sauce

The name, “Buffalo Shaker Fries,” sounds like something from that very very old school game Oregon Trail (you know, the one about the pioneers where everybody eventually dies of dysentery?). Yes, this is just us complaining. The name is fine, really, once you consider the contents: the fries are made in delicious, feisty combination with Frank’s RedHot sauce―hence the Buffalo wings vibe.

However (and let’s consider this Complaint Part Two, or Part Deux, if you’re in French Canada): Frank’s RedHot is produced in none other than the very American state of Missouri. Springfield, Missouri, in fact, with a major production facility on a road (we kid you not) called Mustard Way. Now owned by McCormick & Co, it’s America’s #1 selling hot sauce brand. And yet, it’s almost as if we can hear them laughing at us in between delicious, zesty bites up there in Canada…

Wendy’s, Listen To The People

Of course these sound amazing. It’s classic Wendy’s fries (you know, the ones with the potato skin, clear evidence of real potato, on each end of the fry?). Then you add that classic, not-too-hot cayenne kick of Frank’s RedHot and shake it all up―what’s not to like?

It is a slightly maddening, slightly confounding question as to why Wendy’s didn’t see fit to unleash the spicy, salty goodness on a nation known for its rabid consumption of all things Buffalo-sauced. (Not to mention, friends, we are the birthplace of Buffalo wings.) Look, Canada gets its poutine―let us have our Frank’s RedHot! Maybe if we complain loud enough, Wendy’s will bring these bad boys south of the border.

She's unapologetically against macaroni salad and believes Sour Patch Kids are an acceptable substitute for cherry tomatoes in a salad.
