This week at Crumbl they’ve gone all in on the country theme. But, beyond the theme, the thing that excites us is that for the first time in a long time, we’re seeing a fruit flavored cookie hit the Crumbl menu that isn’t strawberry. It’s been a bit redundant this summer with how many variations of different strawberry cookies have hit the menu.

So, when we finally saw the Blueberry Muffin Cookie on this week’s lineup, it was a site to behold. The cookie itself is made with a blueberry muffin-inspired cookie dough, and it is veiled with a buttery glaze after baking and garnished with blueberry muffin streusel. Without further ado, here is our official review of the Blueberry Muffin Cookie from Crumbl’s country week menu.

Our Official Thoughts

Pros — This cookie kind of went against all of our expectations of Crumbl. Generally, they are overly sweet, have a surprisingly dry texture, or are simply the artificially flavored version of what they’re advertising. And sure, maybe that is a pessimistic outlook on Crumbl, but it’s better to be delightfully surprised than continue to be disappointed with their pattern of flavors and execution. Again though, this cookie went against all of those expectations and actually impressed us significantly.

The cookie itself is crispy on the edges, but nice and tender in the middle without actually being under baked. Since it served warm, it really does feel like a muffin in its texture. Plus, the fact that they are actually using real blueberries to give it a blueberry muffin flavor means that it doesn’t taste like a artificial replica of what a blueberry muffin tastes like.

Additionally, we really did expect that the butter glaze on this would be artificial tasting and give it a movie theater popcorn flavor. To our delight, the glaze didn’t taste like artificial butter at all, and it just made the cookie taste even more like a blueberry muffin with its natural butteriness. And, for once, we got a well salted and balanced cookie flavor. It wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet, and the salt really helped you appreciate and taste the actual blueberries baked into the cookie.

Cons — While we understand the point of using a streusel topping as a garnish for this cookie, it didn’t really have any distinct flavor, so it kind of felt like a throwaway addition. It wasn’t bad, and it didn’t actually deter from our ability to enjoy the cookie like some of the garnishes at Crumbl do. But for a cookie that has so much positive going for it, if we had to criticize one thing we suppose it would be the lack of significance of the streusel.

Final Verdict

This cookie made us very excited for Crumbl to start veering away from the monotonous strawberry flavors. They demonstrated with this cookie that they are able to do other fruit flavors just as well (if not better) and to a high degree of execution. To Crumbl we ask: what’s next?
