McDonald’s Monopoly is back, whether you like it or not. The fast food chain’s version of the board game (which is, I think we can all agree, a very loose version) is due to kick off in the US on October 6 – but it’s already started somewhere else! In Canada, McDonald’s Monopoly has already begun, and the game is in full swing, with people racking up their pieces.

Now, this may all come as fairly passé news to you. If you’re not interested in McDonald’s Monopoly, you may not care one jot that it’s geared up for another spin. If you are in Canada, though, and you were on the fence about whether to participate or not, one of its prizes might bring you round. Safe to say it’s on the wilder side.
A Golden Bite
According to Dexerto, McDonald’s Canada is offering the opportunity this year to win a burger…made from gold. Yes. A gold burger. If you’re lucky, you could be the recipient of a Quarter Pounder made from 10-karat gold, which is apparently worth around $20,000 CAD. It’s not solid gold – but I’m not about to sit here and shake my head sorrowfully at that fact, seeing that I own literally nothing made of any actual gold whatsoever.
If this piques your interest, though, and you’re eligible to play (ie., a Canadian resident), then you should know that you won’t be able to win it by collecting a specific set of pieces. Instead, it’s accessed through Bonus Play, via the McDonald’s app. If you don’t win a Digital Play prize, you may get a Golden Prize Draw entry – and this is how one lucky person will receive the golden burger. For the rull rules on how to take part, check out the McDonald’s Canada website.
Prizes!
This golden burger isn’t the only high-value prize available this year to Canadian McDonald’s Monopoly players. They have the chance to win either 5 million Avion points from Royal Bank of Canada or a check for $50,000, and McDonald’s is also offering a 2027 Nissan LEAF Platinum+, which has an approximate value of $62,000. Over at McDonald’s USA, meanwhile, participants could win a $1 million cash prize, a Jeep Cherokee, free McDonald’s for a year, and a host of other goodies.
Yeah, all of those would be cool, I guess. But how many of them involve a burger made of gold? That’s right: None of ’em.
