It’s Crumbl’s self-proclaimed coziest week of the year, and we’re here for it. From pumpkin spice to Reese’s Pieces, they are leaning into the fall flavors that define comfort and nostalgia. And, admittedly, one of the flavors that has intrigued us the most this week is Crumbl’s rendition of a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie, because, if we’re being honest, it’s kind of a difficult balance to strike between the bold chocolate flavors and the warming pumpkin spices.

Ultimately, we knew we would have to try this cookie out for ourselves, and to let you dear readers in on the inside scoop of whether or not this cookie is worth trying out for yourselves. Crumbl describes the cookie to be a tender pumpkin spice dough packed with semi-sweet chocolate chips. It’s served warm and sounds like a treat packed with comfort. Here’s what we actually thought about the cookie in the end though.
Our Official Sporked Review
Pros — What this cookie did deliver was an opportunity for a balanced, natural tasting pumpkin spice flavor to be represented by the company. All too often we see replacements for actual spices in the form of extracts or “flavors.” But this cookie did feel genuine in the quality of the pumpkin spice flavors. You could even tell it was made with actual pumpkin via its flavor as well. And, if you were fearful that it would be pumpkin dominant, rest assured there are an abundance of semi-sweet chocolate chips in this cookie.
Cons — I think there’s a certain point where we just have to acknowledge that just because two things are comforting and delicious in their own right does not mean that they’re going to pair well together. Frankly, chocolate and pumpkin spice are just not doing it for us. In theory it would make sense, because both flavors are bold, earthy, deep, and complex. But when you eat a pumpkin spice chocolate chip cookie, you’re always falling short on one of the flavors, and they never quite sing in harmony.
Besides that, there’s a certain expectation for all things pumpkin to have a certain degree of tenderness and moistness. But, this cookie was surprisingly lacking in those qualities. The crust of the cookie was somehow rubbery and chewy in a way that was distinctly unpleasant. Even the center of the cookie didn’t have that satisfying texture we so desired. It was just strange on all fronts regarding its texture.
