As we get closer and closer to Halloween, Crumbl is dedicating this week’s theme to all things spooky. Not only is it fitting, but the menu items sound particularly delicious. From treats that resemble our favorite trick-or-treating candies to a Halloween spin on Crumbl favorites, there’s lots to look forward to. But our curiosity always ends up getting the better of us.

This week, we decided to try out Crumbl’s Halloween edition of their beloved Confetti Milkshake Cookie for ourselves. It’s made with confetti sugar cookie dough and rolled in green and purple sprinkles. After baking, it is topped with cake-flavored buttercream and a single dollop of whipped cream for garnish. It is served chilled to mimic that milkshake quality, too. So let’s get into whether or not you should try out this cookie for yourself, shall we?

Our Official Sporked Review

Pros — With a lot of the cookies that we struggle to really enjoy eating from Crumbl, they still have one through-line of a redeeming factor. You see, where Crumbl sometimes lacks in successful flavor execution they still make up for in design. Their cookies are, perhaps above anything else, designed to look good. And that’s exactly what this cookie does. It looks good. Better yet, it looks on theme. And, if you know anything about us here at Sporked, then you’ll surely know that our appreciation for an on-theme treat runs deep. This cookie perfectly puts us in the Halloween spirit, and honestly in the mindset for it to be an excusably bland cookie, too.

Cons — Here’s a thing folks, Crumbl sugar cookies really do not do well refrigerated. Especially due to the fact that they intentionally underbake their cookies so that they have that gooey factor, these cookies a pretty unpleasant texture to eat when they’re cold. Beyond that, the texture of the icing doesn’t really stand to do well when served chilled either, since the butter in the frosting solidifies to a point where it feels like the icing breaks off in chunks rather than you being able to bite it and appreciate it for the creamy frosting that it is.

Texture aside though, this cookie really doesn’t have any flavor worth writing home about. It’s egregiously sweet with little to balance it out, and it’s overall just pretty bland. I would’ve expected at least the frosting to have carried some weight in the flavor department, but it really just fell flat. The only discernible difference from this and any other buttercream from Crumbl is that it was just a bit more creamy. Otherwise, it’s more of the same.
