To paraphrase the iconic quote from Scream, what’s your favorite scary story? (I could have just said “movie,” but it wouldn’t quite work for where I’m going with this article, much to my disappointment.) It’s that time of the year when people everywhere place a flashlight under their chin and spook the ever-loving hell out of everyone around them. It’s a time-honored tradition. And Subway’s joining in with its latest promotion.

Well – kinda. This one’s a little more focused on spooky lunchtime stories. But a link is a link, a concept is a concept, and more importantly, a free footlong is a free footlong. Allow me to explain.
Terrible Lunch = Free Sandwich
This Halloween, Subway is giving away thousands of free footlongs (in the form of $15 Subway eGift cards), in exchange for horror stories – and specifically, horror stories related to bad lunches. Essentially, all you have to do is go to lunchtimehorrors.com, enter your email address to get started, and then, when prompted, tell Subway about a particularly bad lunch you’ve had. “The $20 smoothie that left you hungry. The $25 salad that wasn’t worth it. The greasy burger that weighed you down,” Subway says in its press release, as potential examples you could give – but we assume it could be anything. Does the terrible Caesar salad I made last week count, I wonder? (I had barely any dressing, and the chicken was mealy, in case you wanted to know. Really poor work on my part.)
Here’s the important part, though: You only have a couple of days to take part. Subway’s horror-tinged lunch campaign started yesterday, October 12, and it runs through October 16. Sign up and submit that story by the end of Friday for a chance to win, but we’d rather do it sooner rather than later.
Deals On Deals
Subway’s Halloween sandwich giveaway is just the latest in a string of offers and freebies from the chain. This week, in fact, it’s running a happy hour offer where you can get a half-price footlong with the purchase of a full-price one, from 4PM to close on weekdays and all day over the weekend. Just use the code BOGO50 through the app and online. It also previously offered a free 6-inch sub (again, with an accompanying purchase) to football fans via DoorDash. At the moment, something’s popping up once every few weeks, so if you haven’t had Subway in a while, and that smell – we all know it – has been tempting you in, now might be the moment.
