The people who run Costco are more than aware just how exhausting walking through the countless aisles is, which is exactly why there’s a food court inside every building. Here, customers can take a load off and recharge with a variety of food and drink options to help get those energy levels back up for round two (or even three and four) of their Costco adventure. The Costco food court is always a happening place no matter the time of day. All that schlepping around the behemoth chain is an appetite-inducing adventure and one of the most popular items to nosh on during those much-needed breaks is the pizza.

Pizza is a pretty easy sell overall―a slice of gooey cheese on top of a buttery crust is enough to tantalize anyone’s taste buds. Costco’s pizza comes at a reasonable price as well. A big ol’ slice will only set you back two bucks and you can snag a whole 18-inch pie for ten dollars. Not a bad deal at all. However, just because Costco sells affordable pizza doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worth spending your money on. In fact, there are several reasons why customers give the pizza a hard pass when they visit the food court and opt for something different instead. Maybe you’ve tried the pizza before, or maybe you’re a Costco newbie, but you might want to consider these reasons the next time you find yourself wandering the Costco food court in search of munchies.

Too Much Grease

Listen, no one’s looking at pizza and thinking, “This is health food,” but when you bite into a slice, you don’t want it dripping with so much grease that you feel like you’re gulping it down by the tablespoon. The melted cheese on pizza does get a bit oily when it bubbles, but some customers say Costco’s pizza is disturbingly greasy. You can always use napkins or paper towels to blot off the grease that pools up on the cheese, but if too much oil turns you off, you might be better off ordering something else entirely.

Extremely Limited Variety

One of the best things about pizza is the variety of mix-and-match options you can throw onto the cheese for a truly epic pie. However, customers have extremely limited options when it comes to pizza variety at Costco. And by “extremely limited,” we mean two: cheese or pepperoni. Yeah, the most basic and boring pizza varieties on the planet. Even the Costcos in Europe have a BBQ chicken pizza with green peppers, but sadly, America doesn’t offer it. So, don’t arrive at Costco looking for a fancy meat lover’s slice. You’ll leave sorely disappointed.

Lack Of Actual Flavor

If there’s one thing you look forward to when eating literally anything, it’s flavor. What’s the point of filling your belly with something if you’re just tacking on calories without any kind of appealing taste? Well, some customers have warned that the sheer amount of cheese and grease you consume on one slice isn’t worth the overall bland flavor. To counteract the blandness, you can always ask for the chopped onions that the hot dogs come with a bonus topping, or you can even come prepared with your own personal blend of spices to add. However, munching this pizza plain might not give you the burst of flavor you’re hoping for.

Doesn’t Make The Cut, Literally

Whenever you order an entire pie from a pizzeria, there are two things you expect: the pizza is cut all the way through and the slices are roughly the same size. However, this seems to be an issue with Costco’s whole pizza. Customers say they’ve ordered pizzas with wildly different slice sizes and others have to use knives at home to finish cutting the pie all the way through. Pizza is supposed to be a grab-and-go kind of food, but Costco is really getting in the way of that convenience with its lack of efficient cutting.
