I don’t know who decided that ice cream, purple yams, cookies, and cornflakes belonged in the same dessert, but I feel like they’re onto something legendary. Häagen-Dazs has teamed up with New York City’s Supermoon Bakehouse to create a limited-edition sundae and it’s the sort of thing that makes a regular scoop of vanilla look a little underdressed.

The collaboration is part of Häagen-Dazs Shops’ 50th anniversary celebrations. Its first store opened on Montague Street in Brooklyn back in 1976 and it seems that the only appropriate way to celebrate half a century of ice cream is to throw an entire bakery’s worth of ingredients into a sundae. Fair enough.
The result is the Ube, Vanilla & Cornflake Cookie Dazzler, which will be available at select New York City locations starting October 15th.
So, What’s Actually In This Thing?
Quite a lot, as it turns out.
The base is Häagen-Dazs’ classic vanilla ice cream, one of the brand’s original flavors. It’s then layered with Supermoon Bakehouse’s ube glaze, which gives the dessert its rather spectacular purple color. If you’re unfamiliar with ube, it’s a purple yam commonly used in Filipino desserts, with a mildly sweet, almost vanilla-like flavor. So, thankfully, we’re still in dessert territory rather than your usual baked potato.
Next come chunks of Supermoon’s Honey Roasted Cornflake, Macadamia & White Chocolate Cookie. That’s one cookie, by the way―not three separate toppings. Although I wouldn’t complain about that either.
There’s also something called a Honey Joy Cluster, which, having grown up in Australia, immediately caught my attention. Honey Joys are an Aussie childhood classic made with cornflakes, honey, butter, and sugar. They’re the sort of thing you’d find at a school bake sale, and frankly, putting them on ice cream seems like a pretty excellent use of them.
The whole thing is finished with whipped cream, more Honey Joy Clusters, and another drizzle of purple ube glaze.
Between the creamy ice cream, crunchy cornflakes, macadamia nuts, white chocolate, and honey, this sounds like a dessert that’s determined to cover every possible texture. And I’m not mad about it.
Where Can You Get The New Häagen-Dazs Sundae?
Unfortunately, this is where things get a little less exciting for anyone who doesn’t live in New York.
The Ube, Vanilla & Cornflake Cookie Dazzler is available October 15th through October 25th at just 10 Häagen-Dazs shops across Brooklyn and Manhattan. That’s 11 days to get your hands on it, assuming it doesn’t sell out first.
If you happen to be near the original Montague Street shop in Brooklyn on October 15th, there’s an extra incentive to get out of bed early. The first 50 customers in line will get 50-cent Dazzlers, $50 gift cards, and some additional anniversary goodies. Not a bad return on an early morning.
There’s no word on whether the sundae will make its way to other Häagen-Dazs locations, so for now, the rest of us will have to admire this purple, crunchy monstrosity from afar.
And possibly start putting cornflake cookies on our own ice cream.
