Last year, CELSIUS launched their first “Spritz Vibe” flavor in what would become a series of cocktail-inspired flavors. The first flavor took on the classic après ski Aperol Spritz, while this year’s Summer Edition delivered Limoncello Twist in spades. I’ve given both Spritz Vibe flavors 7.5 sporks out of ten in their respective reviews, which I think CELSIUS took personally. This time around, the second annual “Winter Edition” Spritz Vibe isn’t inspired by a cocktail but a mocktail: the iconic Shirley Temple… sort of. I’ll get into that ambiguity in the review itself, but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt to start.

Thanks to CELSIUS for sending over a few early cans of their newest flavor; let’s find out if this Spritz Vibe will have us singing about animal crackers in our soup.

CELSIUS Spritz Vibe Winter Edition: Shirley Temple Energy Review
CELSIUS Spritz Vibe Winter Edition: Shirley Temple

New CELSIUS Flavor!

Pros: This is easily my favorite Spritz Vibe to date! The cherry and citrus flavors are well balanced, making for a solidly sweet-and-tart energy drink in a field of competitors that often lean too far one way or the other. I’ll have no problem drinking my way through the sample cans I’ve been sent… even if I don’t wholly cosign the name of this flavor.

Cons: The stated flavor profile of CELSIUS’ Spritz Vibe Winter Edition: Shirley Temple is cherry, citrus, and lime. The actual Shirley Temple recipe uses ginger ale (commonly substituted with lemon-lime soda), grenadine, and maraschino cherries.

Those may sound like similar enough lists, but there’s a key distinction: grenadine isn’t cherry. Grenadine is made from pomegranate syrup, and simplifying a Shirley Temple to cherry and lemon-lime doesn’t deliver that nostalgic flavor at max power. CELSIUS has made a lovely sparkling cherry lemon-limeade energy drink, but I’m not quite sure this is the Shirley Temple that diehards are dreaming of.

Where can I get the new CELSIUS Winter Edition for myself?

Per CELSIUS, this new flavor hits shelves starting this week wherever CELSIUS energy drinks are sold… so basically everywhere. Stay tuned to Sporked for updates on new CELSIUS flavors and any other Shirley Temple energy drinks hitting shelves in the near future.

What cocktail should CELSIUS tackle in their next Spritz Vibe flavor?

Y’all, I have dreams. CELSIUS makes some of the best cola-flavored energy drinks, so I would absolutely die for their take on a Jack and Coke. I could also see the brand translating the wintery fruitiness of a Vodka Cranberry into their next Winter Edition. What cocktail do you want to see CELSIUS translate into an energy drink next? Let me (and them) know in the comments below.
