Arby’s is best known for its roast beef sandwiches, but the chain does branch out every now and again. And its latest experiment looks more like something you’d find at your local sandwich shop than your typical Arby’s order.

The chain is testing four new sandwiches called Sub Stackers, all served on a new mozzarella-topped bread that looks a lot like focaccia. And judging by the ingredient lists, Arby’s hasn’t been all that concerned about keeping things simple.
The sandwiches are currently being tested in the St. Louis, Missouri area and select Michigan locations, with prices starting at $7.99. So if you’re outside those areas, you’ll have to wait and see whether they make it onto the national menu.
What’s On Arby’s New Sub Stackers?
There are four sandwiches in the lineup, each available in regular and large sizes.
The Loaded Italian Stacker ($7.99) is probably the closest thing to a traditional deli sub. It comes with ham, salami, pepperoni, and Swiss cheese, plus banana peppers, red onion, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, red wine vinaigrette, and garlic aioli.
Next is the Turkey Ranch & Bacon Stacker ($8.39), which combines roasted turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, red onion, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and Mediterranean Ranch. It’s also replacing the existing Turkey Ranch & Bacon Sandwich at participating test locations. I’m curious about the Mediterranean Ranch, mostly because I haven’t come across that variation before. And anything with “Mediterranean” in the name automatically catches my attention, so the marketing gets a point.
Then there’s the Three Cheese Beef & Bacon Stacker ($8.99). This one includes roast beef, bacon, cheddar, Swiss, Cooper Sharp American cheese, crispy-fried onion strings, red onion, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and garlic aioli. I think this would be my pick. Three cheeses might be overkill, but crispy onions and roast beef are a combination I’m unlikely to turn down, especially when coupled with aioli.
Finally, the Sweet ‘n Golden Triple Stacker ($8.99) features roasted chicken, ham, bacon, cheddar cheese, red onion, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and Golden BBQ sauce.
It’s a slightly different direction from the others, with the BBQ sauce bringing some sweetness to all that meat. I wonder how the ham works with the chicken and bacon, although I suspect the sauce does a fair bit of the heavy lifting.
What interests me most about the lineup, though, is the bread. Arby’s has introduced a new mozzarella-topped Stacker Bread for all four sandwiches, and from the photos, it looks softer and flatter than a traditional sub roll.
Will Arby’s Release the Sub Stackers Nationwide?
At the moment, there’s no confirmed nationwide launch. The Sub Stackers are only being tested in the St. Louis market and a handful of Michigan cities, including Portland, Albion, and Ionia, and Arby’s hasn’t said whether they’ll become permanent menu items.
All four come in regular and large sizes, so prices will depend on which size you order and may vary by location. Arby’s hasn’t said whether any of the sandwiches will make it beyond the test markets, but I’m hoping that mozzarella-topped bread gets a wider release regardless.
