Costco is one of those mystical places where somehow the generic store brand can somehow perfectly dupe or even exceed the quality of the name-brand products. And, it’s generally more affordable and consistently accessible amongst Costco locations.

Not every grocery store can do this though, and certainly not to the degree that Costco is doing. Recently, we feel like Costco has even taken it up a notch with the Kirkland Signature products that we’ve been seeing. One product in particular has been available at Costco for some time, but recently got an upgrade that makes it even more desirable, especially considering the price point. Let’s get into the full details of why we will probably only be buying this Kirkland Signature butter moving forward.

A New Kerrygold Dupe?

Kerrygold has long been one of our favorite butter brands, and sourcing it from Costco where you can buy it in bulk for a more affordable price has always been a good shout. The butter itself is golden and has a rich, complex flavor from the luscious Irish dairy. Even at Costco, though, its price made it far from the most affordable option. But the taste speaks for itself, so we’ve been coughing it up in order to get that superb quality we want. However, we might not have to do that anymore thanks to a recent change in supplier for Costco’s Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter.

You see, Kerrygold’s parent company sources some of its dairy from the supplier Tirlán. Tirlán is an Irish comany that produces Truly Grass Fed Butter, too. And now, Tirlán will also be the wholesale supplier of Costco’s Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter as well. Both the Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter and Kerrygold will be available at Costco locations, but the new Kirkland Signature butter is $4 cheaper than Kerrygold with a very similar makeup.

Previously, the Costco Kirkland Signature Grass-Fed Butter was still of a fantastic quality as it was sourced from New Zealand, which famously has very well regulated and high-quality cattle and dairy industries. But this new recipe is already being spotted at Costco locations in the United States, and the New Zealand production location is no longer listed on the boxes.

Of course, we will have to try out though new formulation and see if it is superb, but as of now we are excited about the prospect of potentially saving a bit of money on each Costco run thanks to this simple switch to your butter sourcing. Stay tuned here for our official Sporked comparison coming soon.
