When I was in France earlier this year, I had raclette – and I’m still thinking about it. It’s not the first time I’ve enjoyed scraping molten piles of cheese straight off the block and onto my plate, knowing that in around half an hour I’ll be reaching for antacids and ready for an early night, and nor will it be the last. But finding good versions of this Swiss cheese, or even any version of this Swiss cheese, is hard once you step away from the Alps, and so I park those dairy-rich memories at the back of my mind until next time.

KFC France is currently putting raclette front and center, though, with a full-on raclette menu – and I’m kinda obsessed with the whole thing. Why does everyone else get to have all the fun?
KFC France Raclette Menu
A few days ago, while checking in on the KFC Reddit page, I was alerted to the fact that the French division of the restaurant currently has several raclette items on its menu (that link, as you might expect, leads to its French page, which is in…French. You have been warned – cue up that Translate button!). There’s a Tower Raclette & Bacon Sandwich, and a Raclette & Bacon Wrapper, as well as a Mini-Rösti Raclette & Bacon tub and Crispy Raclette balls. KFC’s going big on the Swiss-type cheese here, and it’s making me way hungrier on a Monday morning than it has any right to.
This isn’t the first time that KFC France has featured raclette on its sandwiches. It’s done so for almost a decade in various forms, albeit in limited-time doses. And while the items don’t have the same thick, unctuous abundance that a traditional serving of raclette typically does (although the slice in its Tower sandwich does look pretty thick to me), by all accounts, they’re not too bad. I can also understand how raclette, as a cheese, would work with KFC: It has a nutty, slightly funky flavor and aroma that gives it more character than a classic slice of American cheese, but it’s not overpowering enough to dominate whatever it’s paired with. In short, it’d go well with fried chicken.
International Affairs
I have to say that this raclette menu is way more pleasing to my mental palate than some of KFC’s other international items. A few months ago, KFC China dropped an Oreo Chicken Burger that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. By comparison, these French sandwiches and sides look positively tame. The likelihood of them being released anywhere but France and in neighboring markets is sadly slim, but hey — we can dream.
