Another day, another holiday meal. They just don’t stop coming! It’s been a bumper couple of weeks for retailers announcing their holiday offers and deals: Aldi, Target, and Sam’s Club have all dropped their holiday meal packages, each one promising a selection of items at varying prices per head, while BJ’s Wholesale is offering customers a free turkey if they spend a certain amount. Naturally, other supermarkets weren’t going to be left in the dust. We knew that others would be coming. And we were poised. Waiting. Ready.

Well, this week, Walmart’s delivered the goods. And honestly, it’s hard not to rave about this one.

Walmart Holiday Meal Basket

Walmart has just announced its Holiday Meal Basket, a food bundle that promises to improve on the store’s previous seasonal offer, with more items and lower prices. This year, says the store, its Holiday Meal Basket has 26 items and comes in at $35, with enough food to feed 10 people. And that means – quick bit of maths here! – it’s $3.50 per head. The individual items in the bundle, meanwhile, come in at a total of 12% less than they did last year.

And what do you get for that price? A fair bit, people, a fair bit! There’s a Butterball turkey, Stove Top stuffing, dinner rolls, Jet Puffed mini marshmallows, and ingredients to make everything else you need for a big ol’ holiday meal, from cranberry sauce to mashed potatoes to pumpkin pie. Walmart is also making it easy for you to get everything in the bundle in one go (although you can also mix and match what you get from it), with a one-click add-to-cart option on its website.

The Battle Of The Holiday Meals

On a pure price level, Walmart’s holiday meal is the cheapest we’ve seen so far – and on a pure variety level, it’s also pretty impressive. Its closest comp is Aldi’s Thanksgiving meal, which promises to feed 10 people for under $39, and that one has many of the items Walmart also offers, like turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie ingredients. However, Walmart’s Holiday Meal Basket also throws in corn casserole, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole ingredients, giving customers just a touch more by way of sides.

We should point out, though, that a lot of the items and ingredients offered by Walmart are canned or boxed goods; Aldi’s has a little more in terms of fresh produce. Either way, though, you’ll get a good amount for your money — but we think Walmart’s might just take the crown here.
