Oh, Costco. You just keep ‘em coming, don’t ya? Just when I think it’s going to be a quiet week for new food releases at the store, it comes out with a curveball – and this fine Friday, that curveball comes in the form of a cookie. A very delicious-sounding cookie that I’d frankly love to get my teeth around.

Sadly, as I’m in the United Kingdom, it’s not very likely I’ll be able to. But you, fine reader, might. I just hope you like shortbread.

Costco Shortbread with Belgian Chocolate

Costco has just dropped its new Shortbread with Belgian Chocolate cookies in its bakery section, and it already feels like it could be a holiday favorite. Each box contains 15 individual cookies, with each piece of all-butter shortbread studded with Belgian chocolate chips. They’re square. They’re crumbly. They’re buttery. They’re chocolatey. And they’re $13.99 per pack.

Now, that’s obviously a little more than some people would like to pay for a box of cookies, but these are fairly weighty things: Every box comes in at over two pounds, and at just under a dollar a cookie, it’s still a reasonable price. And it doesn’t hurt that they taste good, either.

Oh, Yeah? You Got Proof Of That?

I do have proof of that. “I LOVED these. Good luck not eating the whole pack,” said one person on Reddit after trying these new shortbread cookies. “I suggest buying them when you know there will be people to share them with because they are delicious.” Another person said that they “lasted less than a week at our house,” while another still said, “I don’t know if it’s possible for these to be bad.”

However, they’re not a universal win for some people. On Instagram, @therealkirklandking gave Costco’s Shortbread with Belgian Chocolate cookies a taste test and noted that they were a little on the dry side, before pairing them with a glass (well, a mug) of milk, and pointing out that doing so improved the experience significantly. Quick moment here to remind everyone that shortbread is dry: It may be buttery, but it has a sandy texture due to its lack of other moisture sources other than the fat itself. So, it may be worth, as @therealkirklandking said, adjusting your expectations.

But hey: Shortbread. Tasty. Chocolate. Delicious. 15 of them to give out during moments of pure festivities. Wonderful and wholesome. I think these will be pretty popular.
