Ghirardelli’s been on a roll lately. In the last couple of weeks, it’s dropped its new cookies (which we were thoroughly impressed by – that flavor was balanced, people!) and started the rollout of its holiday candy selection with the release of its new chocolate snowmen. We suspected there would be more from the chocolate brand, which generally shows up loudly and proudly during the last few months of the year. And you know what? We were right to think so. Not to pat ourselves on the back and all, but…called it!

Anyway: Ghirardelli’s debuting two new flavors in its Squares line for the holidays, and they both sound like they’re going to be very popular. Get these in your Hallmark film snack rotation.

Ghirardelli Holiday Squares Flavors

Ghirardelli’s new duo of Squares flavors was revealed to us by @candyhunting over on Instagram, and the brand has gone with a pair of options here that are real crowd-pleasers. Its Milk Chocolate Cookie Butter Caramel combines a cookie butter caramel filling with a milk chocolate shell (there are also speculoos cookie fines mixed through for a pop of crunch), while its Milk Chocolate Snickerdoodle studs cookie pieces into each milk chocolate square, with a twist of cinnamon giving it a festive feel.

These new flavors join Ghirardelli’s returning holiday Squares options, which include its Peppermint Bark, Milk Chocolate Mint Cookie, and Holiday Chocolate Assortment. We can expect them to be available fairly widely, too. The new Milk Chocolate Snickerdoodle flavor is now available at Walmart, while the Milk Chocolate Cookie Butter Caramel flavor is at Target – and both of them can be purchased online via Ghirardelli’s website.

The Verdict!

So far, these new flavors seem to be going down well with Ghirardelli fans (although we should say that it’s very early days, so reviews are few and far between right now). “I tried both, very good although very very sweet,” said one person in @candyhunting’s comment section. This somewhat confirms my suspicions about these holiday Squares: Ghirardelli’s gone for a super-sweet flavor profile for both of them, and while that’s not unusual for the brand, cookie butter in particular can be a delicate thing to get right. If it’s too sugary, it can quickly put your teeth on edge.

I do not doubt that the mass appeal of both of these flavors will drive them to success, though. People are clearly pretty excited about these. Bravo, Ghirardelli, you’ve done it again. The roll continues!
