Beef tallow has officially made the jump from the kitchen to the bathroom cabinet. Ballerina Farm is launching a new body butter made with fat from cows raised on its farm, and it could be an interesting option for anyone who loves a new skincare product.

Beef Tallow Is Getting A Skincare Makeover

Ballerina Farm is launching a new Tallow Tin Body Butter on November 17th in two varieties: fragrance-free and vanilla. Each tin costs $42, which is quite a bit more than the average tub of body butter.

For starters, the idea of using beef fat as a moisturizer might sound unusual, but tallow has been used in skincare for centuries. Ballerina Farm founder Hannah Neeleman has also been using it in her own routine for more than a decade.

Now, the farm is bringing that longtime habit to customers. Ballerina Farm’s new body butter uses tallow from cows raised on the farm. The formula also contains cocoa seed butter, coconut oil, and arrowroot root extract.

Cocoa butter helps soften dry skin, while coconut oil adds moisture and helps keep it there. Arrowroot extract is included to absorb some excess oil, giving the body butter a smoother finish.

It should come in handy for anyone dealing with dry elbows, rough hands, or flaky skin during colder months.

But then, tallow is not a miracle ingredient. While its fatty acids can help moisturize the skin, there is limited research showing that tallow-based skincare products are overwhelmingly better than other moisturizers.

Two Body Butter Variants

Tallow Tin Body Butter will be available in fragrance-free and vanilla varieties.

The fragrance-free version is likely to appeal to people who prefer simple skincare products without added scents. It may also be the better choice for anyone who wants to avoid fragrance because of sensitive skin.

The vanilla option sounds a little more fun. Vanilla is a familiar scent in body lotions and creams, so it could make the idea of beef tallow feel a little less unusual.

Is $42 Too Much For Beef Tallow Body Butter?

The price is probably going to be the biggest question for curious customers.

At $42 per 6.35oz tin, Tallow Tin Body Butter is in the premium skincare category. That is a lot to spend on a balm, especially when plenty of other products contain rich oils and butters.

The fragrance-free version may be the smarter first purchase for anyone curious about tallow but unsure whether they will enjoy its scent or texture.

Ballerina Farm’s Tallow Tin Body Butter will be available November 17th in fragrance-free and vanilla varieties. Each tin costs $42 and will be sold through Ballerina Farm’s website.
