Come the end of the week it’s always our greatest pleasure to go out of our way to recount the highlights of our week. And since we are still food writers here, that of course means the very best bites of our week. I think it’s important to know that we’re here at Sporked are trying a lot of foods. And even if we don’t love it, we’re at least trying most of the new products that are hitting the food market.

So, when it comes to putting your trust of a food recommendation in anyone, we’re a pretty good bunch to seek out. So, without further ado, these are the three best things we ate this week, and what we think you should try out too.

Buffalo Ranch Popcorn — Trader Joe’s

We touched a bit on this popcorn in our Trader Joe’s haul this week, but it truly was a standout bite for us. Not only is it perfectly in-season for the rampant NFL and college football games, but it is absolutely delicious and addictive. Right off the bat, anything buffalo flavored automatically has our attention since it’s such a staple sauce that’s guaranteed to pack in big flavor. But the combination between buffalo sauce and creamy ranch that we see in this popcorn gives it the perfect combination of a kick of heat, a delightful balance between acidity and creaminess, and an overall savoriness that was absolutely intoxicating. Will be keeping this one on hand through the final call of the Super Bowl.

Chicken Shu Mai — Trader Joe’s

Not only is Trader Joe’s wow-ing us in the chip department once again, but a Trader Joe’s frozen dumpling really can do no wrong either. After the impossible happened and we finally tired from our beloved Chicken Gyoza, we looked to these Chicken Shu Mai in order to satisfy that craving with a bit more nuance, to which they certainly delivered.

These have a bit of a lighter and less heavy eating experienc since they are exclusively steamed rather than pan fried, and the filling itself has a bit more of a bright flavor as well. The wrapper was perfectly tender, and the chicken maintained a delicate texture, whilst being densely aromatic and perfectly bite-size. These are great dumpling to add into the rotation to keep things interesting from the Trader Joe’s frozen section. We’ve already bought another box.

Parsnips

Sometimes these little round ups end up being quite simple in our recommendations, due to the fact that they can serve as a moment to highlight in-season produce that we don’t think you should be missing out on. We started to see parsnips in our local grocery store stores just this week, and for as far as an in-season root vegetable goes, these are our preferred alternative to the potato. They can be turned into a mash or roasted up similarly to a potato, and they offer a lighter more aromatic flavor. But we can’t get these all year-round like we can potatoes, so we would recommend take this opportunity to get them while the getting is good.
