At long last, the spookiest month of the year is here. We always look forward to the beginning of October, and this year is no different. And perhaps one of the most interesting things to break down at the beginning of October is the updated product portfolios of major grocery stores. If you know anything about us here at Sporked, then you know that we’re big fans of Trader Joe’s. Even though every product isn’t an absolute hit the atmosphere, value, and unique variety of products available in-stores keeps us coming back for more.

Generally, I think it would be expected for this October roundup of what we’re most looking forward to shopping from Trader Joe’s would be anything and everything pumpkin spice. But, if you want to read all about the pumpkin spice products available at Trader Joe’s this fall you can read our article here. Instead, we’re going to (mostly) steer clear of pumpkin spice and update you on some of the other food items were most excited for. Let’s get into it.

Chicken Flautas

There’s nothing quite as exciting as raiding the Trader Joe’s frozen section for a pick-and-mix dinner. And, when we see something completely new added to the collection, we know we have to pick it up. These chicken flautas are new to their frozen food catalog, and we are desperately excited to try them. They are made with rolled flour tortillas and filled with shredded and seasoned dark meat chicken, green chilis, and Monterey Jack cheese. It’s sort of a mix between a chicken enchilada and a taquito, and we’re all here for it.

Swedish Princess Cake

To me, as someone married to a Scandinavian, it’s funny that princess cakes have suddenly become super trendy in the mainstream since they’re actually a long-standing cultural tradition. That said, they’re so long-standing in the Scandinavian culture for a reason. They’re absolutely delicious and this cake becoming more accessible is a very exciting prospect. We’re very interested to see how well-executed this cake is for ourselves, and we’re thankful to Trader Joe’s for bringing this to an American grocery store chain at last.

Apple Cabbage Slaw Salad Kit

While we definitely enjoy leaning into fall flavors as the weather begin to turn, we still have a certain need for convenience. School is still in session, and we’re all still busy, so having an accessible way to integrate fall flavors into our diet in a way that still maximizes ease and efficiency is important to us. Generally, we quite enjoy the salad kits available at Trader Joe’s, so we don’t see why this one would be any different. It has pecans, apples and currants, and a lemon-dijon vinaigrette which we can only imagine would come together in a delicious bite.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Croissant

Okay, okay, I did say we were staying away from the pumpkin flavored items. But this is an entirely new item to the Trader Joe’s catalogue, and we’re just so curious about it. Pumpkin and cream cheese have long been paired together, but how they will play with a prepackaged croissant is still unknown to us. That said, we like pumpkin, cream cheese, and croissants, so it can’t be bad, right?

Grated Seasoned Parmesan Cheese

Like I said, we’re all busy. And sometimes when we’re busy, not only will convenience win out but so will comfort. And, it’s hard to think of anything more comforting than classic Italian-American flavors. That’s exactly what this Parmesan cheese offers.

The grated Parmesan is not only super easy to use and great addition to a variety of meals (I’m imagining an absolutely fabulous garlic bread), but the addition of parsley, basil, black pepper, and garlic to the Parmesan sounds absolutely delicious. I’d imagine you can throw this on just about anything you would typical grated Parmesan cheese, and it would be a welcome kick of flavor.
