Everyone knows that April showers bring May flowers (and Mayflowers bring pilgrims), but here’s what they don’t teach you in learnin’ school: April also brings brand new Aldi finds, from returning faves to hot-off-the-press Aldi products we cannot wait to try. Aldi has been stocking Easter products since March, so naturally, they’re already jumping into Mother’s Day and Cinco de Mayo in April. By next month maybe we’ll see some Father’s Day and Fourth of July bakery sweets, and by June, who knows? Maybe we’ll get a little Christmas—they’re always ahead of the curve when it comes to holidays. But I digress. The point is, there is a lot of good and very springy-looking stuff at Aldi coming this month, so here are the top six things that we can’t wait to buy and try in April.
- Kirkwood Spring Chicken Nuggets (Available April 2; $6.29)
-
I’m no spring chicken, but these sure are—or chicken nuggets in spring shapes, anyway. “What are spring shapes?” I hear you cry. Don’t fret, they show them all on the package, so I am happy to report that the spring shapes in question are flower, duck (or chicks?), egg, rabbit, and butterfly. As for the nuggets themselves, the packaging describes them as “chicken breast patty fritters with rib meat,” which is food packaging legalese for chicken nuggets. I want these. Mostly I want to eat chicken nuggets shaped like chicks because then it’s like savory Peeps and that’s honestly the dream.

- Bake Shop Spring Blondie Mix in Strawberry White Chocolate and Snickerdoodle (Available April 2; $2.99)
-
We love a good blondie here at Sporked. Make that a fresh-oot-the-oven blondie and, hoo boy, we will marry ya right then and there. Good news for you and us then that there are two new blondie mix options at Aldi this spring: snickerdoodle blondies with a cinnamon topping that looks simply scrumptious and strawberry-white chocolate blondies that looks sweet, fruity, and tasty as heck.

- Sundae Shoppe Churro Ice Cream Sandwiches (Available April 16; $4.99)
-
Aldi is on a big churro kick this month. I don’t know if that is in preparation for Cinco de Mayo or if they just associate churros with the flowers, baby animals, and themes of rebirth that typically accompany spring, but there are at least three or four churro items among the April Aldi finds we saw. That said, these ice cream sandwiches sound the most intriguing. The ice cream between the two round, churro-lookin’ cookie things is a salted caramel ice cream, so the whole thing is giving frozen ice cream version of a caramel-filled churro. We simply don’t see how these could be bad.

- Moser Roth Mother’s Day Truffle Box (Available April 23; $4.49)
-
This is it. The year when you pick up all your Mother’s Day gifts a full month in advance. Come April 23 you have no excuse to be last minute and give her an index card with a hastily scrawled “IOU for 1 hug,” because that is the day Aldi drops this assortment of Mother’s Day truffles that includes Passionfruit (white chocolate), Caramel Macchiato (milk chocolate), Dark Chocolate, and Strawberry (milk chocolate). Yes, all in one box. That is such a range that, a.) there’s gotta be at least one thing in there that your mom likes, and b.) there’s a real chance she likes all of it and you get a whole bunch of brownie points (and maybe a truffle…if she shares).
- Live G Free Gluten Free Tortelloni in Spinach & Cheese and Four Cheese (Available April 16; $4.29)
-
These gluten free tortelloni are not necessarily new at Aldi but they’re returning at long last and people online seem to love these things. We are all for more gluten free options being available, especially ones people seem to like. They are selling both the Four Cheese and the Spinach & Cheese versions, so we say if you are gluten free and have a hankering for some pasta, give these tortelloni a try—we just might do the same. (Side note: Why was there no character named Tortelloni in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Tortelloni is both Italian and sounds tortoise related…missed opportunity, IMO).

- Mama Cozzi’s Pizza Kitchen Stone Baked Thin and Crispy Spinach & Feta Pizza (Available April 2; $5.49)
-
Mama Cozzi is back at it again with more pizza! This is not the first Spinach & Feta offering from Aldi but it seems it could be the first “Stone Baked Thin and Crispy,” which honestly sounds like a cross between spanakopita and a pita with stuff on it, and both of those things make me happy, so this pizza seems like a slam dunk. The salty funk of the feta with a garlicky sauce and some spinach for iron, fiber, and vitamins? Sign me up. This pizza sounds (Mama) cozy as heck, and seeing as April is the season of the showers and not yet the flowers, I feel like we all still need that.
