One chicken holiday wasn’t enough.

This July, we’re celebrating National Chicken Finger Day on July 27th and National Chicken Wing Day on July 29th. Two separate holidays. Two days apart. Both for fried chicken. And 7-Eleven is making the most of both.
The convenience chain is running limited-time deals on wings and tenders at participating Raise the Roost and Speedy Café locations inside 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide.
The biggest one is at Raise the Roost, where individual chicken tenders and traditional bone-in wings are $1 each from July 27th through July 30th. They come classic, spicy, or saucy, depending on how much work you want your lunch to be doing.
And people really do show up for this stuff. Last year, 7-Eleven says customers bought nearly 1.9 million wings on National Chicken Wing Day alone. That’s a lot of wings.
Chicken Has Somehow Earned Two Holidays
The strange thing about National Chicken Finger Day and National Chicken Wing Day isn’t that they exist. It’s that they’re separate.
Chicken fingers and chicken wings are obviously different foods. But they’re still part of the same broad category of things we order when we want something crispy, salty, and ideally accompanied by a small plastic container of ranch.
And yet, each gets its own day on the calendar. And I, for one, am not complaining.
7-Eleven Is Making It A Whole Chicken Month
The $1 deal isn’t the only one running.
At participating Speedy Café locations, Speedy Rewards members can get an eight-piece order of boneless wings or a five-piece order of bone-in wings for $5. That one runs through August 25th, so technically, you have a lot more than two days to celebrate.
There’s also a 7NOW delivery deal for anyone who’d rather not leave the couch: 10 wings for $8, with ranch, barbecue, buffalo, or marinara. Because sometimes the effort required to put on shoes is simply too much when there are ten wings involved.
The Chicken Holiday Industrial Complex Is Thriving
National food holidays have become a bit of a strange phenomenon. There’s National Ice Cream Day. National Hot Fudge Sundae Day. National Pizza Day. National French Fry Day. And now, two different days for chicken that comes with dipping sauce.
For restaurants, though, they’re extremely convenient. They’re built-in marketing opportunities. You don’t have to convince anyone they suddenly need chicken wings. You just have to remind them that today is the official day to eat them.
And if you can attach a discount to it? Even better.
So if you needed an excuse to eat wings or tenders this week, congratulations. The calendar has provided one. Excuse me, actually, two. And 7-Eleven is ready for both.
