Recently, Sporked got to visit Applebee’s and taste-test all the new stuff on their menu, from the lemon parmesan chicken to their cheeseburgers dipped in a bubbling, molten pool of cheese. It was awesome. Anything that can be described as a “bubbling, molten pool of cheese” is typically pretty awesome. You agree.

But they had another new standout on their menu that we were really excited to try: Applebee’s Loaded Potato Waves. I’ll admit: They’re a little on the pricey side at $12.99, but the portion is big. Here’s our honest review.

New Applebee’s Appetizer!

Applebee’s Loaded Potato Waves

Pros: These are what potato wedges wish they could be. I know that sounds controversial. I’m not trying to slander potato wedges (I would never do that). But these thinly sliced waves have the perfect—perfect—amount of potato, with crisp edges and a soft middle. They aren’t too frail, so they have no problem holding on to all that bacon and melted cheddar. And they’re super dippable. Potato wedges aren’t as easily dippable.

Cons: The only con here is that these weren’t on the menu when I was in college, and there was an Applebee’s two blocks from my dorm. Oh, the life I could have led… (I also wish they were a couple bucks cheaper, but I am ordering in L.A. Depending on where you live, these might be more affordable.)

Verdict: This is not a puff piece. It’s time to go to Applebee’s. I’m deadly serious. Everyone should try these, stat.

Howdy! I’m a Sporked writer based in L.A., and you can find me overstaying my welcome at just about any coffee shop with free wifi, no matter the speed. Sadly, I can never move back to my home state, Florida, because even if the seafood is totally unmatched, there aren’t enough Mediterranean or Korean restaurants to keep me sane.
