It’s not every day I’m staring down a new flavor of Bang Energy. The brand’s corporate overlords were nice enough to send over a sample can of the new Bang Lime Pop Drop Energy; let’s find out whether this lime energy drink is poppin’ or just drops the ball.

Wait, Bang Energy is still in business?

Yes, the reports of Bang Energy’s death have been greatly exaggerated. This alternative energy drink brand has gone from underground favorite to nearly flatlining, never to be seen again… until Monster Energy bought them out of bankruptcy in 2023. (Did Bang Energy only go bankrupt because they lost a $300+ million dollar lawsuit against Monster Energy? Perhaps…)

Since that purchase, Bang has undergone a very light rebranding as Monster brought production and distribution in-house. Post-acquisition, Bang has only launched a few new flavors: the candy-inspired “Sour Ropes,” the “Any Means Orange” collaboration with Any Means Possible, and today’s “Lime Pop Drop.” Speaking of which…

Bang Lime Pop Drop Energy Review
BANG Lime Pop Drop Energy

New Bang Energy!

Pros: Allegedly, this zero-sugar energy drink is based on lime candy. That being said, Bang Lime Pop Drop definitely comes off more like lime soda. Funny enough, this is actually closer to how Mountain Dew Baja Blast tastes than some energy drinks that have openly tried to rip off that flavor! The lime flavor is ripe and, true to intent, candy-sweet. I haven’t tried every Bang Energy, but this is definitely in the top tier of the flavors I have tried. (Should we do an “Every Bang Energy Ranked”? Let me know in the comments.)

Cons: Energy drinks with 200mg of caffeine or less don’t taste particularly caffeinated to me anymore. Between evolving improvements in sweetener science and just getting used to the subtle bitterness of caffeine, it takes a lot for me to truly taste it. This Bang Energy can is rocking 300mg, and I can tell. I can’t really see myself drinking this for fun like I would with other energy drinks.
