Chocolate-dipped strawberries are the height of romance. Honestly, I can hardly write this ranking without blushing. I mean, just think about when February 14th rolls around and all of the perverts who read this list are hand-feeding fruit draped in luxuriant chocolate to their lovers. But, hey, a job’s a job, and it’s my obligation to reveal the best chocolate for dipping strawberries, even if you guys are gross.

I’d never made chocolate-dipped strawberries before this taste test. It’s really easy! And it’s really good. If you’re paying a premium for chocolate-dipped fruit from Edible Arrangements, stop doing that. Go to the grocery store and pick up some chocolate for dipping  instead. Then get your f*ck on! Here’s the best chocolate for strawberry dipping, ya freaks.

Best Milky

Chocofolies Fondue au Chocolat

Belgian chocolate typically has a dark, bitter flavor profile, but this microwaveable cup of chocolate from Chocofolies (you can find it at World Market) is super sweet and creamy. There’s something highly nostalgic about the flavor—it’s kind of like the chocolate they use to make gelt or the better chocolate Easter bunnies. Once it’s been nuked for a few minutes, it’s extremely light and melty. This is the best dipping chocolate for strawberries if you want to eat it like chocolate fondue (versus chocolate-covered strawberries you’re going to put in the fridge to harden and eat later).

Best Dark

Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers

Ripe strawberries pair so beautifully with the rich, bitterness of dark chocolate—you’re getting all revved up just thinking about it, aren’t ya? Okay, relax and pick up a bag of these Ghirardelli meltable chocolate wafers. If you’re not famils, let me assure you that Ghirardelli chocolate is extremely good for being as affordable and accessible as it is—it’s rich, flavorful, and tastes expensive even though it isn’t. In terms of convenience, I have to say I was partial to the melts that came in microwaveable cups. But Ghirardelli makes the best dark chocolate for dipping strawberries if you don’t mind dirtying a bowl.

Best of the Best

Baker’s Real Milk Chocolate Dipping Chocolate

My colleague Jordan Myrick says Baker’s was her family’s go-to for chocolate-covered strawberries. I can very much see why. Baker’s Dipping Chocolate is pretty much perfect. It’s like melted Hershey’s Kisses, but smoother. It’s so rich and thick that it really clings to a dunked strawberry. And it comes in a microwaveable cup—just throw it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, grab some ripe strawbs, and you have one of the tastiest (and low-effort) desserts imaginable. This is the best chocolate for dipping strawberries. Now go do some romance, perv!

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
