You know what’s actually easy as pie? Frozen pies. Sure, sometimes you have to turn the oven on. But most of the time you can just thaw and serve these babies. Now, that’s easy. But what are the best frozen pies to buy? Whether you’re looking for the best frozen key lime pie, the best frozen chocolate pie, or even the best frozen chicken pot pie, we’ve got the best frozen pie brands covered in this ranking.

What we looked for in the best frozen pie

The best frozen pies have a good crust—flaky, buttery, and just a little bit salty. They have plenty of filling—not overflowing, but plentiful. And they taste practically homemade. That’s not asking too much, right? It actually isn’t. We found some seriously delicious frozen pies that you could absolutely pop into the spinning display case at a diner and no one would ever know the difference.

Grab the whipped topping and let’s talk about the best frozen pies to buy.

Sara Lee Pumpkin Pie

Best Frozen Pumpkin Pie

Sara Lee Pumpkin Pie

While this didn’t take the number one spot in our ranking of the best store bought pumpkin pies, it is the best frozen pumpkin pie on that list. It’s sweet and tinged with vanilla—but still pumpkin-y enough. Plus, the filling stays firm when you cut a slice. No puddle of pumpkin here!

Marie Callender's Coconut Cream Pie

Best Frozen Coconut Cream Pie

Marie Callender’s Coconut Cream Pie

You must love coconut to love this frozen coconut cream pie. But if you do, this is the best frozen pie to buy. The filling consists of smooth, creamy coconut custard studded with little bits of toasted coconut. The crust is a bit mid. It’s buttery enough but it could use more salt, in my opinion. Still, the coconutty filling is more than enough to earn this the title of best coconut cream pie on the best frozen pies list. And it’s just the first bit of evidence you’ll see that Marie Callender’s is the best frozen pie brand around.

Marie Callender's Banana Cream Pie

Best Frozen Banana Cream Pie

Marie Callender’s Banana Cream Pie

This is banana split pie—at least, that’s what it tastes like. It’s super creamy, really comforting, and heavy on the real mushed banana. Pro tip: Make sure you give this frozen pie ample time to thaw. It takes longer than the other frozen pies we tried. Ice crystals in your banana cream pie kinda ruin the whole creamy experience.

Marie Callender’s Southern Pecan Pie

Best Frozen Pecan Pie

Marie Callender’s Southern Pecan Pie

Our top pick for the best frozen pie on our best store bought pecan pie ranking, this thaw-and-eat pie gets ooey-gooey as it sits. Wait long enough and you’ll be rewarded with soft caramel, crumbled pecans, and a crackly layer of caramelized sugar. There’s plenty of pecans in every bite. It’s indulgent as heck. Drop this on your Thanksgiving table and never worry about baking again.

Marie Callender’s Chocolate Satin Pie

Best Frozen Chocolate Pie

Marie Callender’s Chocolate Satin Pie

My colleague Jordan Myrick swore this would be the best frozen chocolate pie and they were correct. The filling tastes like decadent chocolate mousse—rich, creamy, ultra chocolaty. And the chocolate crust has a touch of salt, which complements those chocolate flavors. The pie is covered with whipped topping and little chocolate chips, which add good texture and pops of sweetness. The name “chocolate satin” is a lot to live up to, but this frozen pie does it.

Marie Callender’s Chicken Corn Chowder Pot Pie

Best Frozen Chicken Pot Pie

Marie Callender’s Chicken Corn Chowder Pot Pie

We’ve had a lot of frozen pot pies—including frozen chicken pot pies and frozen pot pies with all manner of filling—but this frozen pot pie from Marie Callender’s remains the best of the bunch. It’s a classic chicken pot pie, but the addition of smoky bacon and sweet corn really make a next level frozen meal. It’s extremely cozy and comforting. If the best frozen pie to you is savory, then this is the best frozen pie for you.

Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie

Best Frozen Apple Pie

Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie

Not only is this the best frozen apple pie, it also took the number one top spot on our ranking of the best store bought apple pie, overall. This baby is all about the streusel, which you add to the pie once it’s mostly baked. You get a separate little baggy of the sweet, crunchy stuff—and you get a lot of it. But wait, there’s more! There’s the apple filling, which is packed with real apples that are actually crisp. It’s truly impressive.

Marie Callender’s Key Lime Pie

Best Frozen Key Lime Pie (Sweeter)

Marie Callender’s Key Lime Pie

We had a hard time picking the best frozen key lime pie—so we didn’t. We included both top contenders on this list. We can do that. Anyway, the two frozen key lime pies we loved—Marie Callender’s and Edwards—are very different types of frozen key lime pie. Marie Callender’s is sweet and tart—like key lime juice rather than zest. And the filling is delightfully custardy and scoopable. The rosettes around the outside taste like light, airy whipped cream. And the crust is heavily graham flavored. This is the best frozen key lime pie if you want something a little bit sweeter and a little bit lighter.

Edwards Key Lime Pie

Best Frozen Key Lime Pie (Zestier)

Edwards Key Lime Pie

This is my personal pick for the best frozen key lime pie. The filling is thick—it really holds its shape (I don’t love a gloopy pie). The flavor is super tart and zesty, rather than juicy like Marie Callender’s. Plus, the little whipped rosettes taste like fluffy meringue. And the crust? It’s a perfectly sweet-salty graham cracker crust, aka the best type of pie crust and really the only type that should exist. This is one of the best frozen pies I’ve ever had and I will be purchasing it again.

About the Author

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
