Best Frozen White Pizza (Including Truffle Pizza!)

White pizza is a lot like a white suit. It needs to be perfectly crafted to be good because there’s no pizza sauce to hide any topping or crust flaws. Unlike a white suit, though, it is perfectly acceptable to enjoy a white pizza after Labor Day. But what is the best frozen white pizza? Over the course of two taste tests, we tried nearly 20 different tomato sauce-free frozen pizzas to find the best frozen white pizza on the market.

The category of “white pizza” is broad. It can mean a pie topped with white sauce like alfredo sauce. Or it could mean a sauce-less pizza—almost like a focaccia covered in cheese. Essentially, as long as the only color on the pizza came from the toppings, we counted it as a white pizza. Like any other frozen pizza taste test, we looked for gooey, cheesy cheese, flavorful crust that’s either crackery and crispy or delectably chewy, and vibrant toppings that don’t get all watery when you bake them. (That is extra important for a pizza with no tomato sauce.)

Here’s the best frozen white pizza in the freezer aisle.

Cappello’s Spinach Caramelized Onion White Pizza

Best Grain-Free Crust

Cappello’s Spinach Caramelized Onion White Pizza

This grain-free frozen white pizza is made with an almond flour crust, so it looks a bit different from a traditional flour crust—it’s a much darker color. But it doesn’t taste much different from a classic crust. It’s chewy and just slightly denser than a standard wheat flour crust. The cheese is savory (pizza cheese should taste like something, BTW, it shouldn’t just be a stretchy blanket) and the white sauce is subtly garlicky and cheesy. The onion is sweet and does exactly what caramelized onion should do, but the real star is the spinach, which manages to not get too wet or too crispy in the oven.

Feel Good Foods Truffle Mushroom Square Pan Pizza

Best Gluten-Free

Feel Good Foods Truffle Mushroom Square Pan Pizza

Usually, gluten-free bready products tend to try to get you to focus on something other than the actual gluten-free bready product. But not this gluten free white pizza. This is puffy and doughy and all about the crust. It’s practically fluffy focaccia. And, straight out of the oven, you might not know it was gluten-free. (It’s a different story after it gets cool, though.) The truffle flavor is mild, the cheese is reminiscent of fondue cheese (even though it’s mozzarella), and the mushrooms are perfectly tender. It is ever so slightly dry, though, so I would recommend serving this mushroom truffle pizza with a dipping sauce—even ranch dressing would do the trick.

Good & Gather Mushroom and Truffle Thin Crust Pizza

Best Truffle Pizza

Good & Gather Mushroom and Truffle Thin Crust Pizza

It’s always a gamble when you buy truffle pizza. So often, the truffle flavor is overwhelming and super artificial. But not with Good & Gather’s mushroom truffle pizza. The truffle flavor is subtle—it’s just there for some aromatic depth and to enhance the already umami-forward roasted mushrooms. The crust is crunchy. The cheese is plentiful. And the onions (there are onions, even though they aren’t touted in the name) avoid mushiness and have a rich sweetness. My only complaint? More mushrooms, please!

Whole Foods Italian Cheeseboard Wood-Fired Pizza

Best for Cheese Lovers

Whole Foods Italian Cheeseboard Wood-Fired Pizza

Why hasn’t this been done before? It’s a blend of Italian cheeses that you might find on a cheeseboard…on a pizza! The cheeses include: mozzarella, asiago, pecorino romano, parmegiano reggiano, and gorgonzola. It all melts together to create a gooey, slightly funky topping that is so much more complex than any standard cheese pizza. I totally love the coarsely ground black pepper, which practically acts as a topping in its own right. And then there’s the fig sauce, which you drizzle over the pizza after it bakes. It provides a fruity foil to the rich cheese. And the crust is yummy and yeasty and chewy. You simply must try this white pizza.

Genio The Bianca Pizza

Best Garlicky

Genio The Bianca Pizza

Yes, it’s kinda fancy. But you deserve kinda fancy frozen white pizza. When it comes out of the oven, you might think, “Yawn.” But, boy oh boy, you would be wrong. This humble white pizza is packed with flavor. It’s gooey and cheesy (but not oily) and perfectly seasoned with garlic (lots of garlic) and basil. To quote my colleague Gwynedd Stuart when she took her first bite, “Holy moly.” And it’s the (second) best white pizza to buy if you like Neapolitan style. The crust is chewy and looks like it just came out of a thousand-degree oven.

Newman’s Own Stone Fired Crust Quattro Formaggi

Best of the Best

Newman’s Own Stone Fired Crust Quattro Formaggi

This is a pizza with no tomato sauce—and it is proud of it. It’s everything you love about a Neapolitan-style pizza—the chewy, bubbly crust, the creamy, stretchy cheese—without the sauce. And it’s fantastic. Seriously, I think about this white pizza a lot. It’s a real feat of baking science to make a frozen white pizza that puffs up so yeasty and crusty in the oven—as if it was homemade dough. And the cheese has an incredible stretch. You could put this cheese pull on Insta and rack up the likes. While it’s great on its own, it’s also ripe for dressing up. Drizzle on a balsamic reduction. Scatter some fresh basil and prosciutto. Rip off pieces and dip it into some tapenade. It’s the best frozen white pizza to keep in your freezer at all times.

  • Newman’s Own Stone Fired it’s the best frozen pizza I’ve ever had bar none. I slice old world pepperoni and add that along with a side of RAO’s tomato sauce for dipping. This isn’t just a great frozen pizza, it beats out most restaurant pizzas as well.
