The best graham crackers are mildly sweet, deliciously crunchy, and make excellent “bread” for a chocolate and marshmallow sandwich. We tasted more than a dozen popular graham cracker brands and varieties to find the best graham crackers for s’mores, for eating in milk, and for encouraging abstinence—the best gluten free graham crackers and the best cinnamon graham crackers, too.

Personally, I’m not a big s’mores guy. My favorite way to eat graham crackers is to break up a stack, put them in a bowl, cover them in milk, and smush them until they become a sweet porridge. (Yes, I am an adult woman and not a baby, and, yes, I have teeth, but I’m telling you this is delicious.)

What we were looking for in the best graham crackers

I think most people just grab a box of Honey Maid and call it a day (and they wouldn’t be wrong to do so), but I’m pleased to report that there’s a whole world of graham crackers out there with different textures and flavors and levels of sweetness. The best graham crackers have that signature graham flavor—you know it when you taste it. Some are crackery and some are more crumbly, like cookies, especially the gluten free graham crackers we tried. As long as they tasted good and weren’t so dry that eating them felt like a punishment, we included them.

Before you spark up the campfire, give this list of the best graham crackers a read.

Best Gluten Free Graham Crackers

Schar Honeygrams

I don’t think any of us expected gluten free graham crackers to be quite this good. These Honeygrams from Schar are definitely sweeter than other graham crackers, which makes them a bit more like cookies than crackers. But if you’re making s’mores with, say, a bitter dark chocolate (maybe something with a sprinkle of sea salt?), the combo won’t be too cloying. This is the perfect graham cracker for a fancified s’more. These are also the best graham crackers to dunk in hot black tea—they definitely have cookie vibes.

Best Unique

Crumbdillyicious Graham Crackers

These generic graham crackers from Kroger have a signature graham-y taste, but also have a hint of something citrusy that makes them taste like a graham cracker-animal cracker hybrid. These are the best graham crackers to pack in a lunchbox to eat on their own.

Best Cinnamon Graham Crackers

Annie’s Cinnamon Graham Crackers

These aren’t the best cinnamon graham crackers, but they are the most cinnamon-y graham crackers we found in our taste tests. I prefer Honey Maid Cinnamon graham crackers because they’re absolutely coated in cinnamon sugar, but Annie’s have way more cinnamon flavor if that’s what you’re looking for. The cinnamon is nestled in all the little holes. It’s nice. The crackers themselves aren’t as flavorful as Honey Maid, but these are organic if that’s a plus for you.

Best Sweet

Honey Maid Made with Real Cinnamon

These cinnamon-spiced graham crackers from Honey Maid aren’t a huge departure from the original, but they taste different enough to make a more interesting s’more, especially if cinnamon is your thing. Don’t worry: This isn’t Red Hots cinnamon; this is Cinnamon Toast Crunch cinnamon. My favorite part about these is that the cinnamon-sugar coating, which is ample, gives them a little extra crunch and texture. They’re really sugary—that makes them the best graham crackers to eat as a real treat.

Best Graham Crackers for S’mores

Trader Joe’s Graham Cracker Squares

You gotta love a graham cracker that comes perfectly shaped for s’mores, right? With these Trader Joe’s graham crackers, there’s no perforation to contend with and therefore less chance you wind up with a bunch of oddly shaped, jagged chunks of cracker that aren’t suitable for chocolate and marshmallow sandwiching. Besides the shape, we really liked this cracker’s flavor and density. They’re surprisingly sweet (I swear they have a bit of a toasted marshmallow flavor built in) and sturdy enough to hold up to a bumpy ride to the campsite or the egregious amount of marshmallow and chocolate you might want to stack on them. But don’t let their sturdiness fool you. These are still crispy, light, and pleasant when you take a bite. They’re the best graham crackers for s’mores.

Honey Maid Graham Crackers

I’ve said it before and I’ll certainly say it again: Some things are classics for a reason. Honey Maid graham crackers are a classic because they’re great. If you haven’t had graham crackers in a minute, you’re probably thinking, “Eh, little dry, little boring.” But these have a lot going on! In addition to that distinct and timeless “graham” flavor, Honey Maid graham crackers have an excellent honey sweetness and really taste more like cookies as you chew. They fill your mouth with the flavor of a real-deal baked good. Yup, the best graham crackers are exactly what you thought they’d be.

About the Author

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
