Best Animal Crackers for a Wildly Good Time

The best animal crackers are light, sweet, and crisp. In my opinion, you should be able to tell what kind of animal each cracker represents. Lastly (and this might be controversial), some of the best animal crackers aren’t even normal animal cracker flavor!

What is animal cracker flavor, you might ask? It’s a sweet but mild vanilla flavor with a hint of salt and lemon. These cookies are considered a children’s snack, but they’re actually very nuanced. We ate every animal cracker we could find to compile this list of the best animal crackers, including the best frosted animal crackers and the best chocolate animal crackers. I hope you have a ferocious sweet tooth!

Best Puffy

Gamesa Galletas Animalitos

There are two different types of animal crackers: puffy animal crackers and non-puffy animal crackers. These are puffy animal crackers and they are the best version of them. Do they look like amorphous blobs instead of animals? Yes. Are they tasty? Absolutely. The puffy aspect gives them a great airy crunch and they have that classic animal cracker flavor.

Best Chocolate

Stauffer’s Chocolate Animal Crackers

These are the best Stauffer’s animal crackers. They have a deep chocolate flavor that makes this childhood favorite feel very mature, but they aren’t bitter like dark chocolate. Because of this, I think they’d make the perfect snack to be shared by adults and children. What parents don’t want a snack they can enjoy with their kids? Kids are not necessary, though. I’m a grownup and want to dip these in vanilla frosting for a decadent dessert treat. Wild, I know!

Mother’s Frosted Circus Animal Cookies

Mother’s Frosted Circus Animal Cookies are so tasty. Their thin coating of frosting and crunchy circular sprinkles give them a super unique texture. In terms of flavor, you mostly get a fun sugary sweetness. They’re much more decadent than regular animal crackers, and we love that. These are some of the best frosted animal crackers you can buy, and you can find them at almost every grocery store chain. Go grab a bag of these, stat!

Best in a Box

Nabisco Barnum’s Animals Crackers

If you’re looking for the best box of animal crackers, look no further! These are the most famous animal crackers for a reason. These have some of the strongest citrus flavor and I’m obsessed with that. They have a great crunch and a light sweetness. Animal crackers are more fun when they come in a box, so buy the best animal crackers that come in one!

365 Whole Foods Market Frosted Animal Cookies

These are the best frosted animal crackers by far. The frosting is so thick and sweet. There’s no artificial or chemical taste. You don’t need many of these to satiate your sweet tooth. I loved these so much that I’m planning to buy these again, ASAP. Like, I will be going to Whole Foods just to buy these even though it’s not my normal grocery store. That’s saying something!

Best of the Best

Kroger the Wild Side Animal Cookies

These are the perfect animal crackers. They are sweet, citrusy, and have a nice vanilla flavor, too. The flavor is so nuanced. I never thought I’d describe an animal cracker as nuanced, but here we are. They’re crunchy but not too crunchy. My favorite part? They’re so affordable and you can get them at Kroger (or any grocery store chain owned by Kroger)! I love a food that is both delicious and affordable, and that’s why these are the best animal crackers.
