Nicole Enayati’s Favorite Chips

Welcome to Mythical Kitchen Picks, the series in which the crazy culinary kids over at Mythical Kitchen tell you all about their favorite foods. Last week, you read all about Josh Scherer’s month of homemade burritos and his affinity for giant, translucent tortillas. This week, it’s Nicole Enayati’s turn and she’s talking snacks—specifically, some of the best, most finger-lickin’-good potato chips you can buy. Read on to find out which bag of chips she can’t stop eating or giving to friends and family for them to eat.

Nicole’s Pick: Zapp’s Kettle Potato Chips, VooDoo

A chip like this only comes around once in a while—like Halley’s Comet or a really flattering pair of bell bottom jeans. I really don’t know how to describe the flavor of these chips. Vinegary? Peppery? A lil’ sweet? BBQ-adjacent? Whatever they are, I like to think of them as perfect. They are perfect flavored chips. Apparently, they were made accidentally when an employee dropped a bunch of random spices, tasted the concoction as they were cleaning up, liked it, and thus, VooDoo chips were born! Do I buy the story? Not exactly, but I am quite grateful for their existence. Any human with a stomach can polish off a bag in no time flat. The first time my niece had them, she became wide-eyed and said she’d never had something so delicious. I gave a bag to my pregnant friend and she finished half a bag in one sitting. My mom loves them, too. These chips are incredible on their own, but they are also delicious dunked in onion dip, nacho cheese, or even tzatziki. They put almost every other potato chip I have had to shame. Buy a bag, you won’t regret it.

  • I also love these chips! Funky and vinegary and sweet! I will say though, like salt and vinegar chips, eat too many of these in one sitting and you might find your taste buds getting dissolved by the acid!
