Best Pillsbury Ready-to-Bake Cookies

How bad can life really be if you can enjoy freshly baked cookies with almost no effort? Is it a miracle? No, my friend. It’s the glorious creation that is store-bought cookie dough. Out with “maybe it’s Maybelline,” in with “perhaps it’s Pillsbury.” The Doughboy came through and gave us not just premade cookie dough, but pre-portioned squares of ready-to-bake cookie dough. You basically just have to turn on the oven.

If it seems too good to be true, look away, save yourself, because it gets even better. In addition to convenience, there’s now a variety of Pillsbury ready-to-bake cookie dough flavors. Whether you’re in the mood for a chocolate overload or a classic sugar cookie, there is a Pillsbury place and bake cookie dough out there for you.

I taste-tested seven different Pillsbury cookie dough flavors to find the best ones. To do this, I simply baked each dough according to package instructions. I also noticed that the packages said that the dough was safe to eat, so, obviously, I tasted them that way, too. While they were all winners in my eyes, here are the actual winners. None of that participation trophy nonsense.

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Monster Cookie

This Pillsbury cookie dough is proof that sometimes more is more. Just one bite satisfies every craving. It tastes like jazz sounds—there’s a lot going on from every angle that all just miss the mark of synchronicity, but it kinda works anyway. You get oats, peanut butter, M&M-like candy pieces, and chocolate chips. The cookies are great, but skip eating the dough raw unless you’re a fan of raw oats. If that’s the case, I have to ask, how did you learn to use a computer if you are a horse?

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Double Chocolate

Best Dough to Eat

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Double Chocolate

This chocolate-on-chocolate cookie dough is a little like the Spy Kids kids: It’s most successful in early life. Fully baked, the cookies are a touch dry. But the raw dough is something to get excited about. It has the soft chew of cookie dough but the unapologetically sweet chocolate flavor of brownie batter. I thank my lucky stars that this is marketed as a safe-to-eat dough because I’d eat it raw either way. A spoonful or two of this dough out of the fridge at 2:30am with a whipped cream chaser? Unbeatable.

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Chocolate Chip

Best Classic Cookie

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Chocolate Chip

Ever have a grandma in your life who made the absolutely best chocolate chip cookies and claimed the secret ingredient was love? Well, she’s a liar. She was probably just using this Pillsbury cookie dough. These Pillsbury ready-to-bake cookies are quintessential chocolate chip cookies. The edges are crispy without being crumbly, the middle is soft and chewy. The chocolate is present without being overpowering, and there’s the perfect amount of depth from caramelized brown sugar. The raw dough ain’t too shabby, either. Start to end, this is exactly what I want from a chocolate chip cookie dough.

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Reese’s Mini Pieces Peanut Butter

Best of the Best

Pillsbury Ready to Bake Reese’s Mini Pieces Peanut Butter

I am a peanut butter fiend, which actually makes me pretty critical of peanut products. They so often fall short of doing justice to the simple beauty of a gob of peanut butter straight out of the jar. Despite my skepticism, I found this to be the best Pillsbury cookie dough of the bunch. And I wasn’t alone. My fellow taste testers also thought these Pillsbury ready-to-bake cookies were the best—even though some do not share my love of peanut butter. The texture is perfect throughout the whole cookie. I dare say, it’s even better than the chocolate chip cookie. From the crispy edges to the chewy middle, the somehow-not-too-sweet-yet-perfectly-peanut-buttery cookie includes bonus gems of peanut butter flavor from the Reese’s Pieces. And those little candies also give the cookie some nice texture from the crunchy candy shells. The dough is delicious, too, but the browning from the baking really takes everything to the next level.
